91 Mustang Question...
I am looking at getting a new car and one of the ones I am looking at is a 91 Mustang Notch back.
The guy I am buying it from has done a few mods, but nothing serious. It is a V-8 Engine and has a lot of the SVT upgrades and whatnot that are straight off of a cobra edition of the fox-body style Mustangs.
It has 76K on the engine and is manual trans. Guy is asking 6800/obo for it.
Does this sound like a good deal?
Here is the original add:
http://pensacola.craigslist.org/car/529233884.html
The guy said that even though it is an LX it is a V-8 in it.
Thoughts? I appreciate your opinions and whatnot.
If anyone else knows of any decent vehicles that are not crazy expensive in or around the Pensacola area of Florida that are being sold I would appreciate the tip! Thanks.

You could get the lx with a v8. i have an lx 5.0 hatch. make sure the frame is straight and it hasn't been in any accidents. Plan on having to restore some of the interior if its not already done. 6800 isn't a bad deal for a pretty low mileage car, the 5.0 is holding value pretty damn good and the notchbacks are in really high demand because they make a good drag car. The mods on a 93 cobra motor are as follows
1. Iron gt40 heads
2. cobra gt40 upper and lower intake manifold
3. 65 mm throttle body
4. 70 mm maf
5. 24 lb injectors
that combination makes around 280 horses. Most people chuck those heads for better flowing aluminums and put a bigger cam in there and you got a 350 horse motor in a light car.

ok i read the ad, chuck those heads and put a bigger maf. put 3.73s in there. That combo is a slight mismatch of parts and with the 3.08s that cam is gonna buck you a lot. this is if you buy the car. the porno red interior is gross and most people chuck it for a grey or black interior. car looks clean though.

i would get a carfax on that car, look it over, maybe even get it on a lift and check the frame aint bent or anything and then talking him down to like 6500 or so. always low ball them. but that car is priced pretty fair if its as good as it looks. the way you can jew him down is the porno red interior.

Haha.
Well I want to get a mechanic around here to check it over and whatnot. If everything checks out pretty good, which I cant see why it wouldnt, this guy has been pretty good about giving me all of the info on it and he has all of the maitenance records and whatnot. Says he just had a Ford Certified Mechanic pull the engine out and clean the block, replace the gasket heads, and replace the cam as well as the timing chain.
I am not crazy about the interior either, but I can deal with it if the car runs like a champ, which I hope it does. I can replace the seat covers easily.
I am thinking about just low balling him a lot and offering him 6,000 right then and there and see what he says, that way we can work with the number a bit if he doesnt want to go below like 64 or 6500.

if you go there with 6k cash and he really needs to get rid of the car, its hard to turn down cash when its right there. Im sure it'll run like a raped ape if it has a new motor in it, maybe switch that combo a lil, i'll help you with that if you want. You'll be surprised how easy it is to make a 5.0 pull nice. they are quick cars contrary to what people say, its the asshat mustang owners that give us a bad name.

Word.
I used to have a 92 5.0 and it was a total money pit. The guy I bought it from ran it into the ground and I needed some wheels on the fly, so I paid something like 900 bucks for it. I was young and didnt really realize what I had, but at that point the body needed so much work and the engine needed a lot of work, so i just got rid of it.
I am looking at this guy as a daily driver right now and then when I get my next command duty station I will probably have enough money to get something newer and more fuel efficient as my DD and then I can keep this as my toy.

a fox body 5.0 is an extremely reliable car if they are taken care of and the owner didn't let it go or they redid everything. A fresh engine with a good tune should run forever. The chassis are solid. The problem is people put way too much power in them and dont work on the suspension or their driving and crash em. They are old cars so lots of them were neglected too.

I love that quote, me and my friends (becasue I am jewish) are always joking around with me jewing pple when I buy shit lol.
But other then that, that car is pretty straight, like stated about get the right cam in it and you would be pretty suprised about the results.

I've never had a foxbody, But I have owned a older ford truck with a 5.0 in it, and you can't kill the god damn things. I really hate that I sold that truck
