    87 or 89 Octane????

Anybody considering downgrading from premium to Mid or Regular to save a few bucks or more than a few bucks???

Depending on how heavy a foot you have or how long you drive... anybody wondering if once a week maybe switching?

Is it safe for the engine/injectors to run 87??? If regular daily driving is being done... no racing or romping... is it harmful?

For the few extra bucks just stick with 89, your an M6 as well so gas mileage isnt that bad. But for a few extra bucks you get the keep the motor in better condition so why not?

The reason you should run 92 or higher is it resists detonation which is the worst thing for the motor. Your only going to save a few bucks, which your motor is worth more then a few dollars. I believe the colder the air, the less octane you can run and the hotter it is the higher you have to run. I run nothing but 93 all year, cheap insurance. Others will chime in I believe and may have more info.

And since I don't know if you know. Detonation is when the air/fuel mixture explodes at the wrong point. 4 stroke = intake/compression/power/exhaust stroke. If the fuel explodes at the compression instead of the power, it could be bye bye motor.

I agree with the above, the higher the octane the "slower" the burn. supercharged I have to run 93+

would'nt recommend it. When i put in a new fuel pump in my 98 a couple years ago i forgot to bring a gas can with premium in it. Was a can with 5 gallons of reg. there so i figured i'd just use that to get into town to fill up. 10 miles to town, that poor motor rattled like someone had poured marbles in the cylinders! No matter how much i babied it, it pinged like crazy till i got it filled with 92 and a can of 104 octane boost.

It's not worth it. Stick with premium.

If it comes to a point where I cannot afford 93 for my car, I will sell it.

I pay little over 10 dollars a gallon for oxygenated race gas, 20 dollars haz mat fee to ship it, and shipping on top of that for my 14:1 compression quad. So premium is cheap. I usually pay 60 bucks a five gallon bucket. On a side note, 110 octane leaded fuel only 3.65 a gallon at my local airport, if only I could use it would save me a shitload of cash.

You mean 100LL? I used to run that shit all the time. I had to get some lead-resistant o2's for it. I didn't have cats so everything else was good.

All you have to do is have lead resistant o2's? I was told it would ruin my injectors.

Running High level leaded gas all the time might hurt your injectors, but i ran countless TANKS of 100LL (Low Lead) in mine and never had a problem with my injectors at all. My car ran on that shit for a long time.

With the o2's you still had to replace them every 4 or 5 tanks. They are just "resistant" the are not immune to lead. Luckily the car only had 1 o2 sensor and it was only like 10 bucks so it wasn't that big of a deal. I went and got alcohol after awhile because it was cheaper in the long run and i could run regular gas again.
