63 tempest, no engine no tranny.

started at 500 bucks on ebay, but turns out it was sarges first drag car with plexiglass windows and ends up at almost a quarter million dollars.

    Sadly now demodded :(

I saw this earlier this week on another site I frequent. I watched the E-bay bidding go from $3,000 to over $150,000 in 1 day once it got out what it really was. They made only 6 of these to run in NHRA SS (Super Stock) category. It's a piece of history.

Just imagine what the price could have rocketed to in a real auction...

These 6 cars (as well as 6 station wagons) started out as 326 (all had 326 emblems on them) "rope drive" trans-axle cars (trivia: trans axle was based on Corvair design) but got 421SD engines with 4-speed and live rear axle. Instant 11 second factory car.

Only 3 Tempests and 1 station wagon are known of today. Only the station wagon still retains it's original drive train.

Detroit thinks everyone wants big cars with medium sized engines or medium sized cars with small engines.

what we really want is medium cars with big engines, or small cars with medium engines. we just dont know thats what we want.

I want a small car with a giant engine. Hence the 454 in my 67 Camaro which I'm giving serious consideration to making into a 496. CID FTW! I'd go bigger but that takes cubic dollars....

My motto: There ain't no replacement for cubic inch displacement.

The third one being the car in the auction. At least from everything I've found. I got to see the station wagon once it was badass.

Either MCR or HMM (I forget which and I subscribe to both) had an article on the station wagon recently. Nice to see a piece of history.

Look at it this way: To a collector, that car (and it's accompanying VIN) restored (even without the original drivetrain) is worth more than a Yenko or ZL1 69 Camaro (the Holy Grail of Camaros). Why, you ask? Because it's made from Unobtanium.
