    4.3 v6 fuel economy ?

I'm interested in purchasing a 92 blazer(smaller s10 looking model) that has the 4.3. What would i expect the fuel economy to be, mainly interested in the hwy milage. would it be better than my ls1?

    its also a 4x4 thanks

4.3's don't get shit for mileage. Good power and they last forever though. Just 3/4th's of a 350. Defenitely not better than a stock ls1.

Well I'm bios to the 60* v6ers so I'd say maybe if it's in good shape, and has'nt had the engine monkeyed with.

Yeah but an s-series 2.8 is embarrasingly underpowered. Especially a Blazer 4x4.

my girlfriend has a 93 explorer 4.0 v6, my camaro gets better mileage. as for the blazer 2.8: usually it should get about the same gas mileage. maybe even a bit worse, because you'll rev it higher for lack of power.
it's all the weight these cars are schlepping around.

^yep, that's basically it. There gets to be a point where the bigger motor will get better mileage. I'd think this is one of those situations

i saw that situation first time on a nissan maxima spec sheet. 3.0 officially gets better mileage than 2.0 .

I have a 94 S10, 4.3 CPI, lifted with 33's and 4.56s, I can get 19 all day long the highway with it. My brother has a 96 S10 ZR2, lifted on 32s with 4.56s and gets 21-22 mpg on the highway all day long.

His truck has 290,000 miles and mine has 398,000 miles, both have original engines and transmissions, neither of them touched. Best trucks ever made, people with problems had lemons or something.

Here's a pic, this is like a block going down the road and still pulls 19mpg.

My ls1 does however get 30-32mpg on the highway when i baby it.

the blazer's are piles of shit....period. We had a 94 that I worked on constantly. Ever done a fuel pump on one of those pieces of shit? Not fun. I've known several people that's had those blazers and they all had to work on them constantly.
The 4.3 isn't a bad motor...it's the rest of the thing that you have to work on. The 4.3's have gasket issues. The lower intake gaskets on just about all of them leak at some point. The distributor is also plastic so when you do a tune up and replace the cap and rotor remember that because it's very easy to strip or crack the mounting ears on the distributor where the cap mounts.

I'm calling BS on all of that. I have a zr2 with a 2" body lift and stock gears and don't get that much. You either spend most of the time coasting down hills or have a strong tail wind every where you go.

Agree! My Dad had bought a brand new s10 pickup in 93 (first year for new body style) got about 15 miles on it before it had to be flat bedded back to the dealer. A ground wire quote: "fell off" unquote, the gas tank and the POS would'nt start!!
