1998 Viper GTS vs. 2006 Corvette ZO6
Which one would you choose and why?
I went to kbb.com and a '98 GTS with 20,000 miles on it has a private party value in excellent condition of $40,000. As you know, it has a very exotic look to it and will run the 1/4 in roughly 12.0@120.
From what I've seen, the new ZO6 is selling for around $80,000 and will run the 1/4 in 11.5@127. I would personally choose the Viper because I think it looks better, is cheaper, and is almost as fast as the new ZO6.

I have to pick the Z06. Even though both are well beyond my budget, I can't see myself spending $40K on an 8-year old car. IMO, the only thing the Viper has going for it is exclusivity. Plus, I've never had the luxury of having a garage queen and a daily driver, and the Vette would make a much better daily driver, or at least near daily driver. Not too fond of the sound from the V-10 either.

I went with the viper just becuase it was my original dream car. Only problems are that it doesnt have the daily drivability of the ZO6 and it doesnt sound as good. It has a bigger cool factor than the ZO6, IMO(you will see more ppl turning their heads to look at the viper than the 'vette)
It costs less by quite a bit and as for being slower, to run those times that they put out stock you have to be a decent driver or your gonna be spinning your way to a 13 second pass(as opposed to 11 or 12 as listed above) Also, for the money you save on the viper, you could mod it and be much quicker than the vette, but thats gettin into the whole modded vs. stock argument.

I chose the Viper based on looks mainly, but I've heard that they don't even have ABS. Or a cup holder. Or cruise control. Are those rumors true?

Ive heard the same thing. But the thing is, its not meant to be a luxury car so much as a race car. All those extra options = extra weight.

I would have to go with the Z06. I do like the looks of the Viper, but the new Z06 is something else. I am thinking about getting rid of my Hawk to get one. And to be honest I would not sell my Hawk to get a Viper. But that is just me.

I read an article about the new version of the Viper in Car & Drivel mag a couple of years ago when they first came out and two things stand out.
How fast is this new 500 hp Viper? Real Goddam Fast!
and
The engine generates a lot of heat, and when you are stopped at a traffic light, the heat pours out of the vents on the hood, creating a really amazing "mirage" effect which distorts your vision. I've heard stories of people popping jiffy-pop popcorn on the hood and I believe it. The side sills also get very hot, and you have to be careful not to burn yourself on them when you are getting out of the car.
So just tell your date that she can't wear shorts while riding in your Viper and everything will be fine.
BTW I voted for the Z06 since I want one really really bad.Last edited by Motrv8d Steve; 03-20-2006 at 02:59 PM.

Of those two?? The C6 Z06, hands down! Why? Because it's a C6 Z96, that's why!

z06 costs twice as much? I'd have to look into it. The vipers an 8 liter, isn't it? If it's got a greater maximum potential than the zo6, and I'm sure it's been well taken care of, I'd probably go with the viper.

I would wait on all of this dealer markup shit to pass and pay 65k for the Zo6, or less when they hit the used lots.
A half a second at 125mph is an ass whipping.

Also with that 125-127 trap speed that is being reported, I think that with a excellent driver, that Zo6 will do better than 11.50..
Hell the C5 Zo6 goes high 11's with a good driver at 10mph less.

Viper. Any car can be modded to oblivion, but the Vette will always look like everyones' co-worker's/friend's dad's/neighbor's car.
The Viper will always look like a super car.

I had never heard bad things like that about the Viper. It used to be my dream car but I want a car that I can comfortably drive every day and be able to hang with 600cc street bikes. Oh yeah, and reliability. I've heard about some new ZO6's cathing on fire though so maybe they'll have that problem ironed out pretty quick.
