1986 GMC Caballero - Bubba Drift

Many think drifting is not racing. It's car ballet. But is it cool when it's a redneck El Camino that tromps the imports?Watch out: the Japanese are invading. First, they infiltrated American shores with cheap, reliable, fuel-efficient pods of transport during the oil crisis, quickly establishing a reputation for building superior cars. Import drag racing was pilfered from our playbook shortly thereafter, exploding to epic proportions and performance milestones just one decade after its inception. The latest encroachment of our turf comes with a stinging sucker punch to the ribs. Sliding a car sideways for style points in ragged pick'em-up trucks and rotted-out Camaros is as American as bipartisan politics and frivolous lawsuits. A perfectly executed brodie is, after all, a redneck rite of passage akin to catching your first 20-pound catfish. Now, after simply adopting and renaming our sport "drifting," the Japanese are taking credit for inventing it. Are you gonna take that? Of course not. So saddle up boys, it's time to fight back.

I never understood why they didn't use muscle cars and pickups more commonly anyway, though the weight balance on a truck sucks. v8 rwd's are cheap, powerful, and in abundance. Maybe they just wouldn't be accepted by their ricer friends?

many are just taking the v8 from camaros and mustangs and putting them in their wrx, 240 etc... best of both worlds, you get torque and you get great suspension geometry.

Yup, like the Civette guy is building a 6.0 wrx on tech. But if you go with a 3rd or 4th gen f-body you can get dirt cheap, you get good handling and torque premade. Or slap on some bigger sway bars and add adjustable shocks if they are not good enough. But the engine swap is still pretty cheap... A built ls in a 240sx or old z car is just about perfect imo.
