    If you look at history from a sociology perspective you are describing the pendulum swing. Harsh/easy/harsh/easy...1890=harsh 1920=party time
    1950=harsh 1960 party time 2000=harsh 2010=party time
    One constant throughout is muscle cars. This is why we have muscle cars. To survive during the harsh periods. Word.

    Man, I'm glad I'm not a kid today. Over-managed and over-sanitized lives.

    No winners, no losers, no guns, no hurt feelings, no fireworks. No, No, No etc.

    When the public demands a nanny state they get exactly that, a "mommy state".

    1982- I, repeat I, a student, hand the English teacher my knife so she can cut open a package. She returns it to me and I put it back in my pocket.

    2006- A student brings his grocery store box cutter to school accidentally because he left it in his jeans by mistake. About two dozen State and Local Authorities have to investigate the incident and the student is suspended from school pending the outcome.

    My only point is that there are many more important things for us to be doing.

    OK, I happened to think of a true story that happened to me that fits this.

    1998- I am a sophmore in highschool welding class. My buddy is missing his Leatherman tool and complains to the teacher. He swears to bust somebody up if they don't return it. It is returned.

    2005- My brother is a senior in highschool shop class. Him and a buddy accidently left a leatherman tool out on a project they were working on. Another student gives it to the teacher, and the buddy's initials are engraved on it. Both my brother and his buddy are suspended for a week for having a knife at school.

    We got a good laugh out of this, My teacher was old-school, and my brothers teacher is new, not even familiar with shop work.
