1948 Cadillac
I have a chance to buy a 1948 Cadillac. It looks to be all original, and in good shape. Some wear but not bad. The owner inherited it. I don't know the details of the car, yet. When we looked at it I wasn't thinking about buying it, just looking at a classic car. But he told me he would sell it, and after I got home I started wanting it.
I have no clue what to look for on a car this old or what kind of price (neither does the owner). Any help would be nice.
I found this one on ebay. Looks to be the same model. And close to the same condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1948-...1035c4b1#v4-37

I would rock that car and dress up like a Ganster on a daily basis.
Seriously. I would dress up like the skeleton on the cover of BLS's MAFIA cd! The maroon suit with the white pin stripes, the white hat with the black piece around it, and then the black/white wing tip shoes......but dont forget the tommy gun.
That is a groovy car man.

Yeah, I think it would be a great car to drive clients around in. Does that mean it is a tax deduction??

Navy Blue Metallic- '00 Formy A4
I'd get it, I love old Caddies. That'd def make a great crusier, or an interesting custom.
And the '48 is kind of historically important...that's the car that started the tailfin craze.

Nothing like old steel...
Get it up on a lift so you can check out the underside. Problem with buying a car that old is that you can not always find parts and sheetmetal for it. There are dedicated suppliers and such so a little internet homework may be a good idea. Is it a 6 volt electrical system? Single reservoir master cylinder? Kingpins in the front suspension? Lever shocks?

I was with you right up to the "kingpins". I did a little research over the weekend. I read that it does have the 6 volt system. But I talked to a guy today that had a '49 and his was 12 volt.
When I get a free moment I need to contact the owner and get some details.

Yeah, I think 6 volt was the standard up untill the mid fifties.
If it's cheap enough though, none of that matters much. You can convert from 6v to 12v fairly easily I believe.

I didn't know that untill I started doing some checking. Seems they used brake fluid. And it was common for it to start leaking and eat out the bottom of the doors. Some have converted to tranny fluid.
