    Zach's new toy.....

H&R .410 single shot. Going to take him squirrel hunting this weekend if he can learn to handle it. Shot it twice and it kicked the shit out of him. He needs to work on his form but he'll get it. I learned on grandpa's single shot 10 gauge so he gets no sympathy from me.

Might be a little to big for the little fellow IMO, i would have gave him a .22 with a scope first.

That is awsome that was my first gun, looks exactly like the one I used to have. I love them little .410's, and I remember the first time I shot a double barrell 12 gauge with slugs lol that sucked talking about getting knocked on your ass at 8 years old.

I'm gonna cut the stock down about an inch for him but other than that he'll be fine with it. I'm also against him using a scope...if he ever uses a scope it'll be after he's moved out of here and with his own money. Scopes are short cuts IMO and don't teach how to properly aim. With a shotgun you learn to shoot by instinct first then you can move to sights.

After all the past torture scenes posted on here... you'll be lucky if he doesn't just shoot you with it to get even.

Seriously -- very cool to be doing the father-son hunting thing. My dad was never a hunter so we were fortunate our neighbor had two daughters and always wanted to take us with him hunting.

I fired my first gun @ 5yrs old a 12 ga. double barrel.. Knocked me on my ass..

I think Ohia is like PA. not sure you can hunt with rim fire.. A .22 does'nt need a scope.. Nor does a shot gun... Most kids I knew growing up learned on 30/30 and/or a guage..

Seriously though Great job Orion! Get another one hooked on hunting so we can keep our rights

Also I have heard that the 410 is actually for more experianced hunters ,why I have no idea. I mean hell if you can hit a rabbit, squirrel ect in the head with a 22 you should be able to with a 410.

Nice choice IMO. I got my 20- guage single shot when I was 7. My cousins have been shooting since they were about that age aswell. How old is your son?

As for taking it to school i remember when I was in kindergarten they let me bring in 3 swords to show the class. My dad was obviously there but still that shit wouldnt even come close to being allowed today.

we just came back in after shooting for a bit. He's going to do fine. Only his 2nd day and he's knocking the can off the stump at 30 yards. Tomorrow we're going to back it up another 10 yards and that'll be his limit I believe. He did much better holding and controlling the gun. It'll be a long time before he's doing everything but he's not scared of the gun and understands when I show him how he's holding it wrong or something like that. We're just sitting down and shooting for now.....I'll let him get comfortable doing that before I have him standing and taking a shot.
