    Want a new Scope

Wanting a new scope for my 30.06. Something that has good optics out to 200-250 yards but doesn't break the bank.

    Any suggestions?

    What's not breaking the bank?

I don't have a lot of experience with 1,000+ dollar scopes.... apart from looking through them at stores. Most of my family and I and friends either shoot scopes the guns came with or put a 200-300ish dollar Nikon on there. My best scope is a Nikon prostaff 6-18x40, with the mildot reticle. I have only shot once at a 300 yard range with that scope. The mildots were nice for changing up targets at different yardage. Works well, I have taken the top of a deer's skull off at 225yards with it on my 300 win mag.

Using yours as a base search I came up with this.

Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40 Riflescope w/ MILDOT Reticle 6732

    Thoughts?

These would be my considerations. I really like Nikon for budget glass, but my .308 sports a Bushnell that has been excellent. Last year was a clean kill at 275 yds. The one I have is not made these days, but similar to the one in link.

Yep, those are good scopes that don't break that bank. Lifetime warranty, nitrogen filled, often come with 2 sets of knobs for on the fly adjustments and often times come with a sunshade tube that screws on the end. Mine is pretty much the same scope but a 6-18 and I have a 3rd knob that adjusts parallax. Really though the only time I have adjusted parallax is at the range and even that is rare... other than 1 time in the field, I usually leave it set at 100 yards which is what most scopes with fixed parallax or non-adjustable parallax are set to as most of my shots are around that range. When at the range I practice with the scope like I would use it in the field. So that I can make adjustments with the reticle using the mildots...not making adjustments with the knobs. So when I sight my gun in at 100 yards I know if the shot is 200 yards I can just drop down 1 mildot and the gun is still on enough to make a kill shot. I'm not a pro-long range shooter so I practice how I would react in the field. Not at a range in perfect shooting conditions.

You can also look into the buckmaster line of Nikon scopes. It is a cheaper line than the prostaff but the differences are pretty minimal. I would say the biggest difference is the prostaff has what they call "quick eye" lens or something like that, which allows your eyes to focus on a target more quickly they claim. The prostaff also has a slightly higher grade lens that shows colors more vividly.

Well I finally pulled the trigger and bought me a Leupold 4x12 40mm Rifleman Scope. Not bad for $270.

I plan on sighting it in on the 4th when I go to throw freedom down range. Just finished my lower for my 6.8SPC as well, so I'll test it as well with my other AR. Waiting on the upper kit on a company that sells complete upper, barrel to the brake for $299. Currently they are on an inventory close for the next 2 weeks. Sounds like we're on vacation.
