It's in the state senate, from what I last heard.
It would be a modification of the existing CHL laws to allow permit holders to open-carry.

So what you are saying is that Virginia is more free than Texas? As long as I can remember in Va you was allowed to open carry without a permit, CCW only allowed for conceiled carry. Damn Texas is strict

From the article.
"Opponents warned it would create a dangerous and intimidating climate in densely populated cities"
it sure would for criminals.
Tx used to be an open carry until Ann Richards and other Libs changed it. It just seems to be finally coming back around

lol WI has open carry but everyone wants conceal and carry because all we have is open carry. Which limits you from taking your gun almost anywhere.

here are texas' current gun laws regarding handguns
http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/TXSL.pdf
also, there are currently no restrictions on carrying a long rifle or shotgun in one's vehicle. after verifying this, i wont be paranoid about my shotgun ridin shotgun...

My fiancee would REFUSE to anywhere with me but I think it'd be great to walk around Costco with the .45 strapped to my hip and my shirt neatly tucked in underneath it...

I would probably go into cardiac arrest if Costco were to start carrying ammo...

I saw a fat guy the other day walking his pugs with a 44 strapped to his hip. I had to pull over and laugh for about 2 minutes.

Some times i wish i lived in texas. That law would have me worried a bit but at least i hope you could still have the choice to conceal or not.

We have open carry in Kansas, yet I only do it when hunting. I don't need you or anyone else knowing that I have a gun.
All it does is scare the Democrats and homosexuals. Which ultimately leads to a man with a gun call to the police department. Then you get to talk to some wet behind the ears officer who should be more educated. I don't have time for that in my life. But more power to you if you'd like to give it a whirl.

I know Indiana is silent about the open carry thing a local police officer said technically they cant do anything about open carry but it only takes one phone call for disturbing the peace (kinda of a oxymoron if you think about it) i guess ill keep mine concealed since I spent all that money on holsters.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never waltz through downtown Houston while open-carrying. Like y'all have said, who wants to bother dealing with the looks and complaints or a green peace officer?
But if I'm outside of a major city, road-tripping, or whatever, it would be nice to not need to conceal it. Makes getting to it much easier when sitting in a vehicle.
