    9mm Silencer

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5qe0ofRTqE[/ame]

Yes, it is legal and it is registered with the BATFE/US Dept. of Justice.

First shot ripped through side of target and in to the ground just in front of my camera to provide you with some idea of the energy the projectile hits with. Yes, it is a real gun with real bullets. Watch the dirt explode.

Loading was subsonic 147gr American Eagle. HD feature should work if you click on the resolution button and that will improve sound a bit I think.

    edit to add:

Silencer is an SWR Trident-9 using LCD mount. Pistol is a Beretta M9 modified with 20lb recoil spring and blackjack buffer.

Ah man, once again Hollywood has lied to me. That didn't sound like the distinctive 'fwwt fwwt' sound that is always used in tv/movies! Sounded much softer. Darn impressive and cool to watch...

Pretty gnarly. I guess I want one, just to say I do.

There's not much use for one other then killing people that I can think of.

Target practice without risk to hearing, right? That's a major plus, on top of the cool factor...

    Thanks.

They're fun to play with and it beats having to wear plugs/muffs every time you shoot. For training, playing and certain specialized defensive circumstances it's an excellent tool.

As for cost...you can get a Trident from Major Malfunction for about $400 I think. From there, you have to decide if you want to own it individually or set up a revocable living trust, which is another couple hundred. Transfer fee for most dealers is $100. Then you send off your Form 4 to the ATF with a $200 payment for the federal transfer tax and wait 5-6 months to hear back from them. They mail you the authorization to take possession, then you go and pick it up and have fun. Many, many people- average joes like you and me- are in to legally owned silencers and collecting pre-1986 machine guns. It's the new "in" thing for firearms. Just make sure you know the law and abide by it. It's complicated, but to me, it's worth it.

If you know anyone who would consider making an illegal, unregistered silencer...do them the favor of letting them know that the minimum sentence allowed by law is 10 years and the minimum fine is like $200,000. This coming from the same agency that used to define a shoestring as a full-auto conversion part...they're very strict.

If it were me...I would start out with a high quality .22 silencer first like the Silencerco Sparrow or Advanced Armament Element. 9mm ammo gets expensive really quick if you shoot as much as I do and .22 is cheap to train with.

If I were going with a 9mm silencer, I would buy the new Silencerco Osprey. That thing is freaking awesome. It's quieter than mine.

If I were going to get a .223 suppressor, I would get the Advanced Armament SPR/M4.

All in all, heavily research what you want to suppress and then heavily research the suppressor/silencer you want to put on it. Buy once, Cry once. Get the best so that you don't find yourself even SLIGHTLY disappointed with a $1,000 investment.

Which is why I do not have neighbors close by. And no cops are coming to my house - benefits of living in the country. In fact, I've got a 500 yard range setup at my place for the 270 and the 22-250. And I agree with Smittro, I love the sound of my .44.

But I will say that gun is pretty badass.
