    advice on freeway racing

This may sound like a dumb question, but needed some simple advice. I have a Camaro SS m6 with a fairly stock LS1. When you're driving about 70 mph or so on the highway, what gear do you guys suggest dropping down to, to maximize take off without jacking up the engine. I'm not really into racing, I've just been getting a lot of bozo's lately tailing me, then running along me looking to race. Mostly just trucks, crappy old mustangs, and some bikes. Know I can beat them, just wondering what gear would be the best to embarass them from that speed.

Wel with stock gears I would still say 3rd...go from 55-60 in second (you'll have to shift fairly quickly but you'll get the jump) , that's where I feel the power is most utilized in my car.

you can take off in 4th or 5th if youre doing 50-70. The T56 is a hell of a tranny.

Not on the highway. say that hes crusing at 70mph engine is around 4k in 5th and Under 2K in 6th well if he suddenly downshifts to 3rd hes going to break loose and slide off the road, or spin out.

Yes Third gear can get you to 100+ actually some actually do their quarter in three gears. Depending on setup of course.

3rd for stock gearing like mentioned above, if you have 4.10 you will need 4th. good luck!!

First or nothing! Your not going to be beating bikes with a stock or mildly modded ss just fyi. But as stated I would say third and get yourself some gears.

With a Stock ls1 it's not gonna break free at 70...I would downshift to 3rd and punch it. Those tailgaters will crap their pants.

Go from 6th-3rd, just tap the throttle a couple times before you get to third to get the rpms up. If you have exhaust it sounds amazing when you do that.

It IS possible to go back into 1st...I've done it!!! Had the car for about 2-3 weeks and stuffed her back in 1st on a 2-3 shift while racing an SRT-8 Magnum. Not cool lol.
