Nice top end, but the other numbers are not to good for 500 HP.

top end = aero. it has decent aerodynamics and good gearing for high speeds, but it's still heavy as heck. BMW lists its curb weight as 3909lb for the M6 coupe. that's a DRY weightower ratio of 7.8. good, but not supercar. but its weight will also give it off-the-line traction, so look out for that. not to mention the low torque number, which will also aid its traction in low gears, and it has ~47% rear weight, which i would guess is a bit better than F-body but i'm not sure. would help off the line as well. but 3909lb curb is before fluids and such, so ~3950lb, plus the driver and you're most likely over 4100lb. that's a tank if you ask me.

Im not to shur but most or all the M series are top end. Lots of Hp but low TQ, thats why there 1/4mile times aint that impressive even tho they got all that Hp.

I'd like to see what one could do that was setup for a top speed of 150ish.

There peak tq is at 6,100rpm's that show's that they are made for top end.

no kidding. C6 Z06 and Viper both make a second quicker with the same power figure.
but both of those are several hundred pounds lighter, and when americans design cars with big engines, they target figures like 0-60 and 1/4mi performance. imports don't care about those as much; they tend to care more about the car overall. i.e. it may run 12.8, which is kinda slow, but it may be just because the alignment has a lot of static camber or something, so it can't get moving off the line. where the viper and vette are probably designed to use very little static camber and have an aggressive camber gain curve. or something like that.
targeting those stats is also why the new Z06 and other high $$$ sports cars now reach 61-62mph in first gear. just to shave that extra couple tenths off the 0-60. not because it makes the car faster at the track, just so they can brag.

just b/c you make your power at high rpm doesn't mean the car is made for high speeds. look at the viper, for instance. low redline, high top speed. or look at the ricer-famed integra type-R. high redline, low top speed. just depends on how the gearing is matched to the engine. high-strung engines like shorter ratios, but if you don't have many to choose from, or if your first ratio doesn't get you going very fast, your top speed will be limited. or you gear it long and its slower to get up there. or like the viper, low redline with long gearing, but a having massive power everywhere makes it less noticeable.
