Not sure if I got killed or not...

Was out shopping before Christmas a couple of weeks back and look in my rear view and see a newer Lightning. We're on a residential street, but I played with him by punching the gas and launching hard up to the car in front of me. After that... the bait was hooked. We were stuck in traffic and this dude is on my ass the entire time... a little annoying b/c we're not racing.... at this point he's just tail-gating the fuck outta me. So anyway... we turn a corner and I'm not paying attention to him b/c like I said we're still in some traffic. I make my way around the corner and just drive normal. Well, he PUNCHES it around the corner and swerves into the oncoming traffic lane (which was clear) and passes me like I was standing still. He swerves back into my lane in front of me. I was thinking this prick needs to be taught a lesson. He makes a left turn down a clear road and I'm on his tail now and we both punch it. He's in front I'm right behind (I notice this HUGE decal across his rear window "Custom Chips") So he's got some added juice. I'm gaining on him slowly, so now it's my turn to tempt fate and swerve into the other lane to pass him. I'm creeping up on him but it's pretty even... I had to let off b/c we were getting close to an intersection. Must've been a built lightning with smaller pulley's running more boost... at least that's what I want to think. Had this been on a rural highway I wonder who would've won.

Yeah... I was considering both cams (305 & 306) for my heads and cam package. But I heard a lot of people on here say that it's got a rough idle. I guess since this is the very first car I've modded I wanted to play it safe. So I got the 305 instead. I'm now regretting it. The 305 is not utilizing the flow of my heads to the fullest potential. Here's the benchflow #'s of my heads.

    tested @ 0.28 in 4.06 bore
Intake Lift Exh Exh (w/ headers)
    71.3cfm .100 54.6 cfm 55.8 cfm
    141.8 .200 106.1 109.3
    203.5 .300 143.1 150.2
    238.1 .400 165.8 177.3
    262.9 .500 180.4 199.0
    277.1 .600 196.9 221.7
    284.0 .700 200.9 227.7

For those of you who know the #'s of AFR's 195cc SBC LT4 cylinder heads with the competition package these #'s are practically dead on. Also, the AFR heads are using 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust. I'm still using stock valves 2.00 Int & 1.56 exh and getting those flow numbers. So like I said, using the 305 is a waste of good cylinder heads. I know... I know... shot me for not doing my home work.... My next set up is gonna be killer...

I've raced a few Lightning's and I'll tell ya, they can keep up... I've dloaded almost every vid online of them racing Fbodies and they win everytime! I guess if I spent $45,000 on something like that, it should win!

If someone spends $45,000 on a Lightning they should see a doctor or they are in Canada.

With a stock tune, absolutely. When I had my LT1, I immediately opted for the CC-306... and after a good tune, she sounded almost stock. Although there are cams out there today that make the 306 seem like a slug, I would definitely consider it now (temporarily), as the difference is night and day over the 305.

I hear ya... If I were going to stick with 350 CID engine I'd definately get a better cam than the 305 or the 306 for that matter. However, as I mentioned earlier, my next set up is gonna be killer. I bought a cheap engine block from a scrap yard last summer (and after magnafluxing/ pressure checking, machining, etc.) I dropped in a forged 383 rotating assembly w/ a boost friendly 9.6:1 compression ratio. I plan on machining my current heads for bigger valves, but essentially just swap everything over to my new engine. I'm thinking of comp cam p/n: 07-467-8, which is the GM LT1/ LT4 Xtreme Fuel Injection 280XFI HR13. It's got a 230/236 duration with .576/ .570 lift & 113 LSA. Oh... and did I mention the D-1SC Procharger. I'll be looking for that Lightning in the spring!!!

Sweet cam selection. It has much more lift than the CC-306's 230/244 510/540, and the LT4's (I'm assuming you're running the LT4 intake, because of the alignment of the ports on the cylinder heads) intake manifold will appreciate it's ability to make power up high. Don't hesitate if you have any trouble with tuning her.

The hell with that Lightning, it wouldn't stand a chance against that set-up naturally aspirated, let alone blown...

thanks man... disposable income is great! I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 550 rwhp and about as much torque w/ 8lbs of boost. I've heard a few people saying they are making a little over 400 rwhp with just a naturally aspirated 383. Then add 50-60% more with the procharger and after parasitic power loss thru the drive train I'm thinking I'll be in the 550 rwhp range.

i know someone with a 01 ligtning that ran a 14.16 twice, auto with exhaust intake computer they are high HP, but they weigh over 5000lbs or pretty close to that it'd be a good match for our cars, as for the later year lightnings idk if there is much of a diff.

Was that on street tires? I'd imagine since its a truck he'd have problems hooking.
