    1998 Camaro PCM ECU Computer

Question: I am looking for a 1998 Camaro V8 Computer, the PCM or ecu, whatever you want to call it. All I can find are V6 ones for the 98. I know the 98 has a different computer then 99-02.

Does anybody know where to find one, and also is there a cross reference for the part, like would a 98 tahoe with a V8 have the same PCM? That kind of thing, let me know if any of you are experts on this, or possibly know the location of a 1998 Camaro PCM. I have searched ebay, all V6s... Thanks for the help!

Which computer? The PCM, ECM, BCM, VICM, EBCM.... the list goes on.

The main PCM that does the engine control. The one that is tuned basically for engine performance. Its in the back corner of the engine bay, passenger side.

    No, you need a 98 LS1 PCM from a 98 Camaro or Firebird equipped w/ a LS1.

Hi, My son just bought one from this person. He has a 2001 Trans Am. It'
s a used ECM flashed to his car. http://stores.ebay.com/SpareECM His old ECM went out on him. He'd buy another from him, even if it's used. 1 year warranty. Hope this helps. I liked he has a phone # to call. The ECM on your car has a number. Thats what you need when you call. Dave

i thought the ecu on late model ls1's needed all the components of the original ecu in order to work, in other words your ecu will not work on my car cause its linked to the ignition etc of your car ?

Hi, My son was asked the vin and the part # on his old one. They programed it to his vin. His cost was just over $100.00 sent with shipping. Got it, plugged it in & good to go. I think on the IGN keys security thingy. Guessing. It is another computer that does it? I'd ask. No problem when he replaced it with the old one. Dave

need to do a crank re-learn when putting in a new PCM.

If you aren't getting a code, it doesn't mean that you are fine, it likely means that the person who sent it to you turned off error-reporting for that DTC so that you don't know it's an issue.

Hi Spordee, Gee wizz, Glad you pointed that out to me. Son-of-a gun. Do you think for a minute I'd give a spam sight for someone to go to? Bought a ECM from that guy & happy with it. Thought it was good to pass on any info. For something that might help others. I would of called up someone here that did the same thing, but after scrolling thru the posts. I didn't see anyone that did this. Tell you what. If your ECM craps out someday, don't give that guy a call. Search like I did in this sight for someone to go to, other than the dealer. Better yet. Just pay the tow bill & cart it off to your nearest dealer. Bring about $600.00 not including the tow bill. And Frost, sorry if I didn't reply on your post. It did have to relearn. Didn't take to long initally, but for emissions testing. Think the same as the original. Have to use the scan tool & see if it's ready. Dave

after receiving a 98 rs for basically free, I stripped it down and now a rolling chassis with a full aftermarket suspension. my big question is what parts/process I need for the wiring harness/computer process. I have an lq4 out of my neighbors express van that I plan to build possibly with boost. The suspension, mounts and driveline are all pretty self explanatory but I'm not exactly sure of what route I have to take with that. A lot of people told me it isn't worth it but I got a solid car for less than $400 and got the motor for $500 so I figured why not? Please tell me I'm not in over my head...

since you have it stripped down that far it would be far better and easier to put a pcm from a 99-02 ls1 and get the wiring harness as well the gauge cluster from a 99 and install it for your build. IIRC regardless you will have to do this if you plan on using a lsx motor and computer as the computer and wiring harness isn't compatible with the 3.8s stuff. i would say you are far from being over your head though.

Very important question right here. It will mean the difference between a 98-02 ECM or newer ECM model yrs.

It comes down to is a 24x or 58x reluctor wheel. I think I informed you of this in another thread you posted.
