Yep, no Z28 in '75-'76. Also technically in the late '80s they made "IROC-Zs", not "Z28s" for a few years. In any case, the Z28 was always a notch below the SS in the performance food chain. Z28 was originally limited to 5.0L (302ci) while the SS started at 5.7L (350ci). The Z28 was the road-course car, while the SS was the drag-strip car.

I just mean I hope it will come back. I know they didnt always produce a Z-28, but its such a perfomance icon and is strictly Camaro. No other car can get away with the rpo code/name in my opinion. You can get a Cobalt SS, not a Cobalt Z-28..

I beg to differ, WS6???
But yeah, considering the Z28 has been part of the model lineup for the majority of the Camaro's life, I wouldn't be surprized to see it return. My bet is it'll be a light-weight twin-turbo'd EcoTech 4 banger w/ a hellacious suspension for road course work, like the original. It'll probably get 35MPG hi-way too.
Wasn't that 1st-gen Lumina a Z34?

If I read the info correctly GM was planning on coming out with the new 2010 Z/28 with a blower which was going to be their highest optioned & horse powered Camaro available , so it would have leap-frogged the SS as the best & fastest . No offence ment SS owners but them's the facts .

i'd be willin to bet that the Z28 is at total fitness tell 2010 or 2011 i'm thinkin they are goin to do what the slowstang did when they redid them come out with a v8 pony car get the hype goin and when it starts diein down relaves the vert then pull out the stops with what i have to agree with what i have read a nasty ass blown Z28... I read in car and driver that the z28 is goin to be top dog now rather then the SS I dont care I just think they are all bad ass and that chevy f'ed up by not havin it ready when transformers came out but watch I bet they will have something for Transformers 2 lol

Well , as far as the new Camaro being a "sports car" it did go around the "ring" at a pretty good clip . Of course you already know that Chevy will be offering a super light weight version just for racing , like Dodge has done with their heavy-assed Challenger . There are ways to pump-up the power to over-come that lard ass .
