    new transmission.

after going down to ammco to get their free diagnostic and telling me that it would cost 2500 to rebuilt the stock 4l60e i decided i would just buy another transmission for that much. so i did. it should be here within the next couple of days i was just wondering what kind of problems i might come across while replacing the trans. like the bell housing how hard is it going to be to work around it, and is there any tools that would make the job easier? also would like to know what tricky parts of the replacement i should be looking out for. i have replaced a couple of transmissions before i just know there are different tough spots for different cars and have never done it on an f body. thanks.

Swivel sockets and a 3 ft. extension are a must for the bell housing bolts.

I had probs seperating the trans from the block. Don't pry too much on the aluminum. Spray the pins with oil.

There are 8 bolts holding the trans to the block.

You will need to pull the starter to get to the converter bolts.

Clean the dowl pins and apply anti-seize.

TAKE THE OPPERTUNITY TO REPLACE THE NO. 8 SPARK PLUG. It is so easy with the trans out!

i only found 7 bellhousing bolts on mine i had to bend the firewall back to get to one of them though so it took longer than just pulling 8 bolts. hopefully i get it in there smoother than it did coming out

When the trans crossmember is all the way down, you should be able to get to all the bolts. I used VERY long extensions. Good luck.

Great advice given by all so far. I had to roll around on my back too, it sucked.
