    Trans Am Automatic Shift knob?

Ok, so I guess since the 3rd generation, all automatics get this t-handle.

My question is, can it be changed? I've seen pics of new knobs that look like manual ones, but isn't there a push-to-shift button, when going from Park to anything else?

    Sorry for my ignorance,
    Dylan

I have a 98 SS and I switched out my auto console for a six sppeed console...I also took off the stockl handle and cut threads on the auto so a hurst T-Handle can screw on, when I do this ..it pushes down and keeps the lockout disengaged...the only prob with this set up is that you cannot drop dopwn into 1st or 2nd...doesnt bother me cause i dont tow boats or trailers and if yiou go to the track it is more effective to leave car in 3rde of 4th anyway..alos you need to be careful not to drop into rverse by accident, hhowver, you would really have to be a numnut if you did this...

Maybe my question was ambiguous, thanks for the reply though.

Basically all I want to do is change the knob, not the entire console.

So instead of a T-handle, it will be a ball, or some sort of knob, with the same console. But since the t-handle has the push to shift button on the left, will that effect anything?

mba was the company that makes them. they are out of business but you can find them. afterthoughtcom i think still has them. you need the one with the "tail" and they have the conversion kits also. pm me if you need some more info.

    Cool Shift knob

I also did this on my 94 Z28 auto..did same thing removed stock shift knob took a dye cut the threads for the Hurst shifter..this would also work with a ball shifter etc..just need to be slow and careful when screwing on so you don strip the threads you just installed on your stock auto shifter...using auto console you shift just as yoou normally would just wont have lock out..if lock out is important then you might need to look for different solution.

1fastcamarosss11 is right, MBA is out of business now, I got mine through them before they went under, but now Thunder Racing picked up their stuff and is now selling them.

same stuff, just under the Thunder Racing name.

The MBA knobs aren't the only ones to choose from. You would be surprised what might fit. If any of your friends or relatives have nice auto vehicles, check to see if their knob might work.

I got tired of my T-handle being all worn looking and Actually found that a 2005 Thunderbird knob works great and still looks like stock. (which I like, but not many go for)

    Cool shifter

I think you can buy any of the universal B&M or Hurst shifters and they come with several adapters..that is what I used to install my hurst T-handle onto my auto shifter.
