Edited my post. I thought about my old 93 Z28 with the LT1 and had a brain fart, thinking Z28.....is not a WS6.
It's a little early here, no coffee yet....
    ..that's my story...sticking to it.

    Thanks for the correction Johnny.

If you don't have the WS6 code then you have a Trans Am, not a WS6 Trans Am

OK thank you for helping me. I understand the RPO codes now and know that I have a t/a and not a ws6 it doesn't matter to me. It still has the 17in rims and ws6 badge but if anyone should ask I will tell them the truth.

Your best bet is to go to compnine.com and pony up the $5 to get your RPO codes for that VIN# (I already checked, your VIN IS in their database......they just won't give out the RPOs for free).

You could also have a GM dealership look up that VIN# in GM's database (this should be free).

OK thanks. I just wasn't sure if Compnine.com website is trustworthy? I just don't want to provide them with my credit card and get hijack lol. If anyone else have access to GM database that can look it up for me I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise I will have to take a trip to the GM dealer.

Yep, simple trip to the dealer will answer all your questions for free. I've done that on several occasions. If you're nice, they'll even print it out for you

Last few older f body VINs I've checked on the GM service department database were already purged out of the system and there wasn't much info there to share. Possibly the parts department system would have the info. Their system is a little different.

I'd say anything 2003 or 2004ish or older is gone.

No need to pay GM for the RPO codes, as they should be on the drivers side door.

    Thanks guys,

I paid $5 and got the confirmation report from Compnine that my baby is WS6. So happy to see it.

DOH! I just assumed he already looked there and didn't find it (due to collision repairs or whatever). Now that I think about it, wasn't the RPO decal on the inside of the glove box door on the '96s?

Thanks Nutball, I think that evens the score.

    2002 Firebird T/A - WS6

go here and check if you like:
Decode 4th Gen Firebird VIN - Trans Am World

From what I decode it IS a 98- made in Canada facility - Formula Trans Am, LS1, assembled in St. Therese, production sequence 231831. Look on the door codes- if you see "WS6" it is certainly a WS6. WS6 designates GM's Special Performance Package for the Firebird.

According to our records, your S/N 2G2FV22G022155574 is a black 2002 WS6 with T-tops and a manual transmission. It was converted by ASC on May 21, 2002 and was our build number 8,974.

The 2002 model year WS6 breakdown is:
    12,517 ""regular"" (non-Collector Edition) WS6s built
    10,888 T-Tops
    6,622 manual transmissions
    4,193 black

With your specific combination (black, T-Tops, manual trans), we built 2,071.

I hope this information is helpful.

My records indicate that your car is a 2002 CE convertible. It was converted by ASC on December 3rd, 2001. It is an automatic convertible. It is the 169th of 492 converible/ auto CE cars made. There were 2,390 CE's made with 1041 being convertibles. As you will know, your car is marked with #712.
