Got beat by an srt8 on the way home from picking up my GTO

I just bought a used '04 GTO. Great car - it's an m6, red with 17k miles. Anyway, I bought it at a Dodge dealership - evidently it was traded in on a Charger SRT8. As I was leaving there was a Magnum SRT8 in front of me leaving the lot and entering a 4 lane highway. I stayed behind him for a couple of lights and then moved to the left lane and pulled alongside. After a couple of stabs at the throttle, we both hit it. He pulled on me pretty good and opened up a good 1-2 car lengths before we had to slow down for traffic. Guess I'll need some mods.

That shouldn't have happened. I hope you was taking it easy or hadn't figured out how to drive the car yet. That is just embarrising to get outt run by a 4 door sedan.

345 hp is what a regular Magnum r/t with the 5.7L hemi makes. An SRT/8 has got a factory bored 6.1L hemi that posts 425hp and 420tq at the crank.

Pretty sure the SRT-8s have run low low 13s bone stock, looks like they're underrated some by my math since they're so heavy...

Probably would have beat a LS2 powered 05 GTO too...

I did some snooping around on the web. the SRT8's have 425 hp and 420 tq. Looking at some websites I saw a few pictures of high 12 second time slips in stock SRT8's. A few more at 13 flat and in that area as well. Looks like they are no joke. I got beat by a station wagon - there...I said it! By the way, I've owned and raced musclecars since I was 17. At 38 I've figured out how to drive and how to admit defeat.

You should have turned around and drove back and traded the GTO back in for an SRT8

Worse - it was the wagon and the SRT8's are all an LS2 can handle and maybe more. These guys are running 13.0's and high 12's stock with these things. I snooped around on a couple web sites. Alot of guys with lightly modded 5.7's are mid 13's as well. I know I should be able to run with the 5.7 hemi, but I won't bother with an SRT8 until I get some mods.

I'll wait for that '08 Challenger if I do trade the GTO. Rumour has it they will have a 6.4 500hp version of the hemi. According to what I have read the car is a lock with the 6.1 425hp and 6-speed and a lighter body. That car is going to kick some butt.

I have a the Station Wagon and it's only the 5.7L Hemi. I weigh over 4000 pounds and am running mid 13's. Best to date is 13.577 with a 1.99 60ft on regular tires. My buddy has the SRT8 mag and it weighs over 4400 punds with him in it and is running 13.0's with a cat-back. Tuners for the cars are comming out in Feb. sometime. Mods i have are bassani cat-back, Dynatech headers, and Volant intake. Not too shabby huh...

An '05 GTO or Z06 would have killed it.

a Z06 will kill an SRT8, but a GTO will not.
