Power Steering pump leak?! new pump or seal kit?

Hello,
I had a few questions. The first being Is it common for the ls1 power steering pump to leak? Second would a power steering pump leaking onto the alternator cause the alternator to not function properly? I replaced the alternator because the lights were flickering and the car would not ocassionally start the first time. I had the battery checked and they said it was fine (from multiple shops). However, the car still doesnt start right away. I looked under the car and there is power steering residue on the alternator coils. Has anyone encountered a problem like this. My last question is Is it worth installing the power steering seal kit (all the O rings and such) or is it better to go ahead and replace the whole pump. The pump seems to be working fine just wont hold fluid and I have tried the power steering no leak stuff and it still leaks. Thanks guys always appreciated.

A kit will be fine as long as it never ran dry. Yes, it will smoke your alternator.
