Nice kill. Sounds like it was the older E36 due to the delays shifting.

Although my user name gives away what I drive, I've always been a huge fan
of the LS1 Fbody. Stock for Stock I never really thought a e46 m3 was faster than one and I've driven a number of them. From a dig or quarter mile the Fbody should have no problem. In my opinion the e46 m3 should be classified as a high speed touring coupe, Its not a drag car but at high speed the damn
thing never stops pulling without the limiter I actually saw one hit 181 MPH...
    Stock.

Yeah I do drive a bone stock e36 M 240Hp. Best time was 14.1 quarter mile and by todays standards thats slowwww. Handling wise, its on another level.

Can't wait to see the 2009 Camaro (500Hp).

    Stock.
It's nearly 70hp down on the E39 M5 which can do 181mph. Care to show proof of that top speed? Considering a 350hp+ C5 can't do it either.....

Deuuuce, this was a program I saw on the BBC network some three or four years ago. It was a comparison test between the 911 carrera & e46 m3.

There is a vid on youtube with a Euro Spec model (343HP) hitting 300km or 180MPH @ 7k rpm. There is alot to be said for an 8k redline. Remember, all the power is made up top. I can post the vid if you like.

A eurospec model and using a stock speedo for top speed indication (notoriously inaccurate) is hardly proof. It's a 170mph+ car but would need 400hp to get into the 180s.

Im not trying to start an argument. I've driven plenty of e46 M's and had no idea there was a problem with the calibration, where did you did get this info from?

Its a known issue with many makes, the faster you go, the worse it reads. Minimal at highway speeds, definitely into the triple digits. Bikes, too. Even as much as 10%.

I searched the BMW forums and quite a few report major differences in indicated speed vs. GPS readings.

Your reply is to the wrong quote, you're obviously trying to start an argument and a stock C5 won't do 180mph.
