3.73's in a4 camaro
i recently had a set of richmond 3.73's installed and now my rear end whines like a banshee after i hit about 40mph and only when i have my foot on the gas. when i get to 80 is has this really low rumble like a really fast vibration from my rear end. i have the optional auburn posi in there and it had 2.73's before. did i need to upgrade my carrier or did the guy not put everything in there correctly. i replaced the bearings and everything. i haven't pushed it much past 80mph because the sound gets louder as i accellerate. any suggestions?

The Guy That Put Them In Did It For $180. He Is A Certified Mechanic, But He Didn't Even Know I Needed Limited Slip Additive. I Don't Have A Warranty On The Work And The Guy Is Kinda Dodging Me. Do I Need To Take It To Another Shop Immediately Or Can I Wait For This Guy To Get The Time To Check It Out?

I would at least take it and let someone look at it. The back lash is probably not set right. You don't want to have a bad wear pattern on your new gears.

I'm A Newbie When It Comes To Mods And On A Limited Budget So I Can't Afford To Break My 10bolt. I Do Want To Get On It But I'm A Little Nervous With All The Noise That Wasn't There Before. I Just Want To Make Sure I Don't F Myself.

My understanding is that "Richmond" gears create more noise due to the fact that the teeth of the ring and pinion are cut more straight up and down opposed to angled like the stock gears. I have a set of "Timken" gears (3.73's) that are very quiet both at acceleration and deacceleration. The break in proceedure is very important to follow to avoid scalding the gears and proper tooth alignment.

take it to ashop and have them adjust the rear end like they said it could be too much play on the p bearing what i would do is take it some where and have them adjust it witch might cost some change but dont beat on the car too much if its set in wrong you could break them

I had the 2:73 and went to the 3:73 and it does make a little noise but only at 65mph and nothing before or after that. It sounds like they did not set yours up correctly. The mechanic that did mine asked me to buy the stud kit from thunder racing to make it easier to set up and he had done a bunch prior to doing mine. I would get it checked ASAP.

Manufacturers will tell you to go 500 miles before running them hard, but the heat cycles are really what you are after. Hopefully you get it fixed before its too late!
