there is a new shelby GT which is just a GT with a body kit and a better flowing exhaust, i think they are 325hp instead of the GT's 300 or 310 or whatever they are

heres Car and Drivers caption under the headline "The best Mustang? Perhaps. But paying $10,530 more than for a stock Mustang GT seems all wrong for $2700 worth of bolt-on parts."

Its true but the reason its soo much more so in 30 years the people who bought them and didnt put any miles on them can go its a GT 350 which is a cool way of saying i have exhaust and a body kit and my mustang. But its for collectors purpose. Its liek the SS or WS6 package, which make the car look cooler and sound a little better but didnt really add any hp

Not really. LT's arent gonna throw of ur a/f ratio, torqe mang, fuel maps etc... that much. Yes to optimize power a tune will work great, but is a few horses worth $300?? Instead save up and after doing H/C get a full dyno tune, and ull be all set.

Why would you call the Shelby GT 500 a POS? I'm sure other than your hatred of Ford you are a fair and unbiased judge of automobiles.

Since this is your first two races and street races, no doubt you've never been on or near a track. I'd love to have ran into you ace.

If the Saleen is supercharged be prepared to have your ass handed to ya. Two car lengths to 120 on a 4.6. You better have the compression checked on your LS1. You've got engine problems or you can't drive.

i wouldn't go as far as call a GT500 a POS but having 500hp and going 12.8 in the 1/4 isn't good, a stock 03-04 cobra put those numbers up with 390hp

You are right. But, there are rumors of a GT350.

I've owned three Cobras and the only time I ever got bugged about someone putting parts on their GT's from Cobras was a Probe with Cobra badges. It's a free world. After butchering up all three Cobras I owned and replacing most of what made them Cobras with other mods I've decided to go the same route, build my own Cobra. The Shelby GT500 is too nice of a car to butcher, replace a lot of the parts and beat the piss out of it on a track. I'm building a 347 from a Boss 302 block and fabbing up my own intake for a 3.4 Whipple. I hope to make over 30 psi on this engine and close to 900 rwhp. I'll buy my own body panels and stick Cobra badges on it and 99% of the cock knockers that would have a problem with it I'll be glad to show them an asswhipping on the track.

I haven't kept up much with Cobras since I sold my 03 last year. But, I know some mildly modded Shelbys are running deep into the 10's with the stock Eaton. I'm pretty sure they are running better times stock for stock. It appears the 500 HP rating is pretty close since most I have seen dyno around 425 rwhp SAE on a Dynojet. I think a lot of people were hoping they would be under rated from Ford. Didn't happen. The 03's dyno 365 rwhp. That puts them near 425 HP at the crank. But, the Shelby is lugging 2-300 more pounds. It's still a damned nice car and surely doesn;t deserve to be called a POS. But, I wouldn't buy one even at sticker. If I were in the market for a daily driver with some power, I would get a Roush 427R. A local dealer has 5-6 of them. The red with white and a dark grey with black stripe were some of the nicest looking stangs I've seen. If I bought one of those I would keep in bone stock except maybe exhaust. I may even buy the Roush kit when I get the engine dropped in my fake Cobra. I have to find an 05 V6 body first.

The only reason they are so slow, is the 4200lbs they weigh. And a stage 3 rouch the new ones, make 415hp at the crank, and i ran a 12.8 with 3 bolt ons and lost to a guy who ran high 12s with his by 1 car. The 99-04 rouch stage 3 supercharged came with 360hp at the crank. 100 more than a stock GT but they also weigh more and those cars werent that fast.

The only thing that holds the GT500 back is it's massive weight - period. The powerplant underneath it is a beast to say the least, and ever since the 2000 Cobra R I wondered how long it would take Ford to wise up and put the 5.4L 4-valve in a more regular scaled production Mustang. That motor has tremendous potential (just look at the Ford GT). If only they could have found a way to put it into a lighter chassis

For the most part the 500. Not to say that standard GT's are lightweight, but the 4-valve motor as well as fully independant rear suspension add to the GT500's obesity.

The GT is a 3600-3700lbs car, the GT 500 is 4180lbs. Big difference.

supercharger, after that i have no clue. on a random side note i know there are a few f 250s running around the area of the ford headquaters with the 500hp version in them though, they used them for test mules for the Ford GT.
