Stock 2.83 gears to 3.73 gears?

How much of a performance difference will i have will i have bad gas mileage, and how bad will my top end be? the guy told me there will be a night to day difference. he said it will be 600-700 $$$ for the parts and labor is that too high.

i whent from an 8.8 in the 1/8 to 8.1 with 373 gears

That is a very reasonable price, are they going to switch you from a 2 to 3 series carrier?
