Different kinds of Dynamometers
What are the different kinds of Dynamometers?
What are the the pros and cons?
I currently used a Eddy Dynamometer. What kind is it?

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
The two major ones are Mustang and DynoJet.
Superflow is starting to become popular as well.
Not sure about the 'Eddy.'

Eddy current vs interia based.
Eddy current dynos put a load on the roller as entered by the dyno operator. Ideally, the load input should be the same as the actual vehicle weight. The idea is to load the vehicle like in the real world. Mustang dynos are the most common eddy current dynos, and are by far better for tuning and real world numbers.
Inertia dynos like DynoJets are unable to change the load settings. It's a fixed weight - the weight of the roller at 2500lbs. DynoJets tend to read unrealistically high, and are the reason so many cars put down numbers so close to the manufacturers rated engine HP. They suck for tuning purposes.
Somewhat similar to comparing a temperature reading in Celsius vs Farhenheit.

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
I was on a Dynapack dyno
It attches to the axles so it requires the wheels to be removed. The guy running the Dyno told me that it would put a load on the drivetrain and may cause my 109k mile clutch to slip badly. But the clutch never slipped. Not sure what kind of load he put on it but he did ask me for a vehicle weight.Craig
