    Removing the AIR and EGR

Iam trying to decide whether or not to get the OFF road headers with no AIR or EGR attachments or leave them and get them with it. I was wondering a few things.

    1.is this a good idea?
2.how hard is it to take out them?
    3.will the dealership bitch?
4.will this adversly affect my car?

P.S. im not to worried about inspections becasuse in Madison we don't have any emissons inspections.

What exactly is the benefit from removing the air/egr? What is the purpose from the factory for the air/egr?

a bit more power. less hassle in the future with headers and intakes, and weight savings.

i have this on my list of semi free mods but am also looking for a site with a little write up and pics....

Tell your friends to join this site and educate themselves, their statements are grossly wrong.

There is really not much to removing either. You unbolt the EGR from the intake manifold and from the passenger exhaust manifold. The bolts might be rusted making them a bit of a PIA. Then you unbolt the EGR from the passenger head. You either need block off plates for the intake and exhaust manifold or need an intake and headers with no EGR provisions. The only other thing left is turning off the EGR codes so they aren't throwing an SES light.

The AIR pump itself is located down by the driver fog light on Camaro's, same area on TA's. The AIR pump is bolted to both stock exhaust manifolds. The hose runs behind the intake manifold and along the driver side fender down into the pump itself. Unbolt it from the exhaust manifolds and pull out the hoses. You can leave the AIR pump in place but will shave about 10 pounds off your front end if you remove it and the bracket. As with the EGR, you need the blockoff plates or headers without the AIR provision. To finish it off, you need to have the AIR codes turned off also.

I don't believe so, someone with HPtuners, LS1edit or some kind of LS1 software would have to do it for you.

I'm sure I'll catch a ration of shit but this is just my opinion.

I removed both on my 98. Did I notice any gains at all? Nope, if I had it to do over again would I do it? Nope. IMO it serves no other purpose than to clean up the engine bay a little. Hindsight is always 20/20 and this is a popular mod but IMO it doesn't really serve much purpose. There's really no ill effects of pulling it but I don't really see a huge benefit either. Maybe the only real benefit I see is losing the EGR so you can put on any LS6 intake and don't have to settle on the SLP intake.

    Again, just my opinion.

I agree with you, removing it cleans up the engine bay and shaves some weight off the front end, but you won't gain much if anything at all performance wise from removing it.

I would do it but I haven't seen any sites with block off plates and I would have to spend cash to get a programmer or LS1edit. I don't plan on getting LS1Edit until I get my laptop this winter.

Thunder Racing has the block offs, a site sponsor.

Above is a link to all the block off plates.
