If it is an automatic transmission, there is a pressure port on the side of the case above the transmssion linkage, the size is 1/8 NPT. I get very accurate readings from that location.

Is there tranny fluid at that location? I don't want to read case temp.

I really do not know the answer to that, however the reading I get there is within 1 degree of what auto tap says it is.

Yes, there is. There was fluid on the plug when I removed it to mount the sender in that location.
