I don't have an a4 but I've always heard the 224 cam works best for them and has great driveablity/reliability. Maybe 3.42 gears and a stall too huh?

i dont have an A4 but i do have a Comp 224 cam on a 112lsa in my car that is still somewhat of a DD. good cam for a DD but I would suggest going 228 (little more power maker). i have similar mods to you. look in my sig...

as for heads, i will get this coming monday a pair of Stage II Ls6 heads, assembled, 2.02"/1.57" 59cc

i would suggest a 224-228 cam. 2800-3500 stall and 3.73 gears. NHRAformula will be a good person to contact...

here is my cam dyno run:

here is my LT/ORY and cam little drive:

    hope this helps...

i dont do alot or racing on mycar but every now and then i do get on it....if that helps...

how much did you pay for labor as far as the cam and all the components that are required as well....???

Advantage of heads are to allow more flow, usually used with bigger cams. If you're looking for a DD cam, then the stock heads should be fine, but you could always port the stockers too. Brand new heads can get pricey and can break the budget.

no, i do not have heads (i have stock Ls1 heads that have been upgraded to support the cam, ie: dual gold springs, retainers, bases).

one of the primary reasons to get heads is to increase air flow through the engine. ported heads, etc will flow more air and help to increase hosrepower. also in some combinations, changing the size of the combustion chamber (cc) will increase your compression ratio (C/R) and help to increase and create more horsepower as well. since these Stage II heads flow larger intake/exhaust but a small cc it should bump up my C/R to give me a little more power. only disadvantage to getting heads is if you don't do your research and select a pair of heads that don't meet your goals or that are mismatched for what you have done to the car thus far is a waste of time, money and fun lost out on, on the open road...

i bought a cam package for around $750 last spring: Cam, pushrods, bases, retainers, Ls6 oil pump, Ls2 timing chain. install and tune ran me $500...

spending time researching now can eliminate heartache, and extra money spent down the road...

first off you will need a stall. a stall in the 3000-3500 rpm range is ideal for a DD car and also a mid range cammed car.
a 224 or a 228 is perfect for the street as they both are mid range cams.
you have a couple of good tuners in texas that will make youre car scream.
heads are not needed unless you are trying to get max h.p out of the car.

A stall should be the first mod on your list.

ANY cam other than stock is harder on the valvetrain. You need to upgrade valvesprings with any cam. Among other things.

    But yeah...STALL!!!

As stated by others, I think a stall should be must. I seen stalled f-bodies on the street here and they ARE wicked. Almost makes me want an A4. No worries about missing a gear or god forbid hitting the wrong gear. Personally, I'd go with 3.42s on the street. Can't really say why cuz I dunno how they would be in an A4. However, I think 3.73s might be a bit steep for street use. Prolly break loose in all four gears on street tires. With DRs then prolly break an axel or blow teeth. Just conjecture on my part tho.

a stall is made to shoot you out of the hole alot quicker and put you in youre cars powerband.
its kinda like dumping the clutch on a manual car but its not bad on the trans.
if you drive normal, you wont feel the difference much compared to stock. a stall also leave youre car in every gear alittle longer.
its a must have for any automatic. its the best upgrade for performance for an automatic hands down.
