I had posted in a different thread about "who I'd like to race?" Well, I had put down a guy I work with who has a Neon that he just finished putting the Stage 3 package on. No BS because I have a copy of his dyno sheet he put 320 hp to the ground. Not sure the % loss for the drivetrain but I don't think 355ish crank hp would be to far off. After seeing that, I think I'll just race for fun.

Well, when I say 'Mopar claimed hp', it's usually more. For instance, the '04-'05 SRT-4's are rated at 230 crank HP and 250 crank torque respectively. However, stock, they dyno anywhere from 225-235whp and generally 240-250wtq or so. The 320whp with Stage 3 is without toys or without HOM (High Octane Mode). Put 110 octane gas in the car, switch on HOM and you're looking at quite a bit more power.
But, yeah...the main reason most go with the Stage 3 is honestly the plug and play ability. It's LITERALLY a bolt on kit. No tuning required. Then, if you'd like, you CAN add more parts and tune...then you're in the 400whp+ range with Stage 3. It's hard to stop once you start, hehe.

I am not sure what all the difference is in hp and mods between a stage 2 and 3 neon. I did race a stage 2 from a 40 mph roll on the e-way. Our jumps were identical but I pulled about a car and and half by about 100 m.p.h. after that I was pulling away soundly. Nice running car though.
Rebuilt stock motor by SRP, SRP tuning, K&N cold air, Ported tb w/ air foil w coolant by pass, Hooker LT's w/ 3" exhaust w cut-out. Flowmaster exhaust, Spec 3 clutch w/ steel flywheel, undrive pulley, 160 thermostat, & show throw shifter

In the end, there still isn't replacement for displacement. Case in point, while four cylinder engines can achieve 'big block' power, a big block can still achieve more. If you turbo charge 2.4L of engine vs. 5.7 or 6.0...there's simply no contest.
It's more a matter of a 20k car having 230whp from factory that can be modded and tweaked for cheap, vs. the more expensive V8 (30k+) that can also be modded and tweaked for relatively cheap...but still has an immediately larger 'investment'.
That, and then there's the difference in body style (4 door vs. 2 door) and so forth. If I was cool with two doors, as I mentioned in another thread, I'd have picked up a '98 SS for under 10 grand.

Well, I've raced a stage 3 from a dig and beat him by a car, but I raced a stage 2 w/ a solid bottom end and manual boost controller from a 30roll and he beat me by at least a car.
