Head bolts

Hello it's been awhile since I posted but I'm trying to buy some arp head bolts for lq4 somewhere in one of my post I believe I've read that there is 2 different sets of head bolts a short set and a set that's all the same.

Yes the red are shorter.

I have the 12 point studs.


One more thing to remember and the most important. MAKE 100% sure that all head bolt holes are completely dry of any coolant. It only takes a small amount to crack your block.

Whats the best way to make sure there's no water in the holes other then turn it upside down

I used an air hose to get most of it out. Then tear off some cloth rags into 1x1 squares.

Then using one of these part/tool grabbers with the rag piece I go through each hole until no more liquid damps the rag square.





Not going to lie, it takes a long time to do but worth it.

You could also use a vacuum pump to get most of it out but I still always had to use my trick to ensure no fluid.

any parts store, hardware, Harbor Frieght etc will carry them.


You could use long q tips or skewers and tape that cloth on too

I use a small piece of soft copper tubing on the end of my air hose. 1/4" diameter I think. Put the tubing all the way to the bottom of said hole, place the rag around the tube and cover the hole, then blast the air into the hole. As you blast the air, slowly pull the tubing out of the hole. I've been doing this forever and have had much success with this method. My 1st time I DIDN'T use a rag to cover the hole before I blasted the air......made 1 HELL of a mess. Old Faithfull effect! LOL

It only takes you doing it once to figure out about putting the rag on I may or may not have done that myself....
