First movie to watch on it:

    Serenity.

The scene near the beginning when the Serenity is entering atmosphere will give your sound system and sub a good workout.

And if you haven't seen the Firefly series that the movie is based on, it's terrific as well (and on Netflix)

The movie works well as a standalone film, but watching the series first adds tremendously to it.

Is this at your new home you just got in Detroit?

What kind of bulletproofing material are you using in the walls? The right material may add some sound insulation.

Let me know how you like the Onkyo. I'm ready for an upgrade and was thinking about getting one of their receivers.

As someone who has had decent home theater systems my whole life, I will suggest Pixar movies. They sound phenomenal. Also, the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is a good one to tune in your sub.

I like it alot and would highly recommend it, i just bought two of them. one for the theater and the other for the living room. With onkyo the most features and amp power for the money and they also sound among the best. I would recommend checking out Accessories4less: High End Audio at Low End Prices! they have factory refurbished recievers with factory warrities with big price discounts. I scored two of these for $318 shipped. ONKYO TX-SR343 5.1-Ch x 65 Watts Bluetooth A/V Receiver | Accessories4less

I will take a look. Thanks. My only drawback is that I have to get a receiver the same exact size as the one I have, or slightly smaller. It's in a TV stand that has a designated area/opening. The one I have now is 100w x 7. It's Kenwood's VR8070. It's pretty dated. Was pretty nice back in the day. I think my speakers and sub are still pretty stout. Just need cleaner power pushing them.

yeah take some measurements and compare demensions with the avr's on the site.........also the published ratings of the these recievers don't mean anything......unless the reciever is put on a bench and tested by a user or publication........it's all speculation.........

I like the paramount introduction at the beginning of the first transformers movie. I have a 7.1onkyo system and the way the stars fly onto the screen makes them take a trip around your head. It's pretty good stuff, and one of those times when you can make it a point to show off the surround effects directly.

Good to know. My receiver has started to randomly cut off (just the sound, not power) until I switch the sound source on it then it works fine again. It's becoming annoying.

The offical Murder after Midnight Hometheater build thread.

the only annoyance I find with my system is in the remote, and that's only because it won't switch power on and off if the remote is in the blu ray/dvd mode. switch to any other mode and it will. I suspect that since the power button and dvd button are next to each other is the cause. not a deal breaker by any means, just annoying.

also, the system I have is one of their box systems that came with speakers and a powered subwoofer, as well as the setup microphone program audyssey. works well for initial setup, and I've found no real reason for readjustment of the settings after the fact. I tried playing with the rear speaker volumes independently of the program and found that the system setup was more desirable. obviously if you rearrange the furniture you have to setup again, but it's not a problem. takes about 10 minutes and pure silence.

Nice. I'm thinking newer receivers have a lot more to offer. Hell, mine doesn't even have HDMI. I did adjust volume control separately for each speaker. I'm just running a center channel, 2 rears, 2 main towers and a powered sub. No room for any additional speakers.
