Radiator problem
After a good run at higher speeds I've noticed a little coolant leak. It's not very much and hasn't required me to refill yet, but it still concerns me. I haven't pinpointed the leak yet, but I'm guessing it's coming from the cap. The overflow tank is also suspiciously dry. I'm thinking that the radiator is all gunked up and preventing the system from dissipating excess pressure. Could it be anything more serious?

The plastic in the radiator probably cracked. I've had it happen and I had to replace the whole radiator.

I replaced my radiator about a year ago due to a complete rupture. After a little looking I realized the heater control valve was completely cracked and hemorrhaging coolant. I also learned that the part was discontinued lol. I looped the coolant hose back in on the radiator to bypass it completely. Seems to be fine so far, I'll just be without heat during the winter...

They make a manual valve that can be installed on a heater hose. You may also be able to track another one down from a different model that will work as they are just a simple vacuum operated valve in most applications. Here is an AC Delco valve that Jegs offers: ACDelco 15-5812: HEATER VALVE | JEGS

As far as I know..NO. You will just be without heat like you said ,but the water will continue to flow and shouldn't be a problem.

Not at all. Looping the heater hose is an old school trick for dealing with a leaky heater core.
