Ok I'm missing on how they think this will solve gun violence...

Really shows gun-grabbers that they know less than shit about firearms and criminals.

Serial number on bullets -

what are the odds of recovering a perfect bullet that has impacted?
Serial Number on shell casings - Hasn't stopped criminals from wiping those off of firearms, how's it going to stop them form doing the same to the casings?

Hey gun-grabbers, how about targeting the criminals instead of lawful citizens and maybe, just maybe support your police and crime may start going down.

They really do think of the dumbest ideas for reining in gun violence. Who is going to put the serial numbers on them? The state? The store owner? The manufacture? Who is going to pay for it? What will this accomplish?

As you said the slug itself will most likely be expanded, destroyed etc. The casing.... casings can be collected. Hell they could even file the brass/alum/steel and remove the numbers. But beyond that you can get bullets anywhere. They could drive to WI or MI or IN etc. There are also a ton of bullets for sale online from private party. There are also many stolen rounds out there or straw purchases.

WTF IL stop attacking the guns/rounds, stop doing the same tactics you have for the past decades and realize... really realize IT'S NOT FUCKING WORKING. It's the people... THE PEOPLE who make these choices.. .who are okay will killing at random at will. ADDRESS THEM. Either by eliminating them or teaching them how to escape poverty.

But they can't because poverty is the DNCs biggest voting tool. Keep em poor, keep em dependent, keep em voting DNC.
