    02 Z 28 overheating

My 2002 Z28 is overheating in normal driving. The gauge will move from 210 to the red in 20-30 seconds and the check gauge light will come on. Does this when idling. I can hear the electric fan click on and it runs for around 1-1.5 min after vehicle is shut off. Car is completely stock and has 44k on it. Where should I start?

And do not trust the factory temp gauge. It is a temp estimator at best. If you will be swapping the thermostat I recommend flushing the cooling system and changing out hoses, as needed. The factory service manual recommends against using a chemical flushing agent. Use a flashlight to inspect the radiator core through the cap and hose openings. Also, use a high pressure hose from the back side (as best you can) to flush dirt and debris out of the fins. Refill with a 50/50 mix of Dexcool and distilled water.
