Black/ Silver- 98 TA WS6/ 01 C5 Corvette
I have heard of Morel for a long time. They are one of the top lifter brands on the market other than Jesel but I wasn't about to spend spend 1k on lifters if it wasn't necessary. It was a matter of knowing I am getting good quality lifters from a known quantity vs buying cheaper ones. Plus I know several people who are running their stuff with good results. Also these particular lifters are have shown their performance and reliability over and over again. These ones have a .750" wheel which is nice. The interesting thing is apparently most guys are running around .090 preload with these to keep the lifters quiet but Morel recommends .045 to .050 preload.

Bought my 4.03 Iron block from Summit!

That's a great deal from Summit considering it's a new block machined and ready to go. They cost nearly that much from GM in standard bore configuration.

Tell me if I'm correct FBJ, I told him to go ahead and have it clean again just to be sure it's done. But the question of CAM bearings? I believe they will need to be replaced after the cleaning correct?
Also he had a question of ARP Main Cap studs. I had mine check to ensure the main caps didn't need to be resized with the ARP studs, however I've also read that it's rare for ppl to need to resize the main caps. Mine didn't need it with it having 150k on the block and crank. I was able to use standard bearing sizes.

On the cleaning, I always clean even after the machine shop does. I use a simple soap and water solution and wash it all down, and I'll also use small pipe cleaners to run through some oil passages just in case and then blow everything out with compressed air. All of this can be done with the cam bearings in place if they are already installed. I guess your only fear would be packing debri up behind the back side of the bearings oil passages, but probably not likely since I'm sure Summit already ran the block through the washer if they installed the bearings. Wouldn't hurt to ask when you buy for piece of mind.
On the mains, the very first thing a machine shop will do is make sure the mains are aligned and hone if necessary because all of the other machine work on the block is based off the mains. The cylinder boring procedure and decking are all based from the main journals, so if that's not square, then the rest of the machine work is wasted. On blocks like the LS platform (similar to the ford FE) with it's mains encased up above the pan rails with alot of support, I would expect that you wouldn't find mains out of alignment very often, but they should always be checked anyway, as any good machine shop would do.

I think he's concern that when you install ARP studs for the mains will it take it "out of round" like what happens on the rods if you switch over to ARP bolts.

Well Tick Performance said they could if needed machine for the arp main cap studs for $100. I'll still be under what a new lq9 with no .030 over bore costs from TSP even with that machining cost.

They already shipped it so...., doesn't really matter either way. The only other option for me would be to buy a new non bored block for more than this one so I don't really mind having to have additional machine work done to this one if needed.

The block is scheduled for delivery on Monday since I am off and my wife won't have to figure out what to do with a 200 lb block .
