I did that already Actually it's an original 454/400 turbo with 3.73 gears that served me great over the years, but the 454 spun a bearing last year, so I bought a crate 502 from Scoggin/Dickey.

That'd be fun to blow the doors off unsuspecting cars lol. How's the 502 run? Smooth, or lopey at idle. Has headers and nice mufflers? You did say this is supposed to be a work truck....

Yeah I run long tube headers and a 3" exhaust system, and I transfered the same performer intake over from the 454 that I was running. All stuff I had on the 454, mainly for more towing power.
The old 454 ran pretty good, 14.70's to be exact, for a truck that weighs 5,300 lbs. it's surprising. The 502 is definately stronger, but I don't have any track times,,,,yet. It's a very smooth running engine with tons of grunt. Scoggin-Dickey sent a dyno sheet, it peaked at 5300 and made 377 hp, but makes 537 ft lbs. of torque, it lights the tires up easy
What I really like is the torque it makes throughout the curve, over 500 ft lbs. from 2700 up to 4500 rpms. Exactly what a truck needs, and alot more power than the old 454 made I'm sure.

Maybe I should start a new topic with a poll,,,,,,,,"which truck will be faster?" I plan to run both at some point soon for giggles.

My prediction is low 14s if not better with that torquey 502.

And I've been destroying my tires tonight:

Are you anxious to get a new set of tires?

I'd like to think you are right, just a half second would get me there from the old combo. I'm thinking the blazer is probably in the 14's somewhere as well (with a completely different setup).

Sounds silly huh? Running that old truck was a fluke the first time (years ago) but it's so funny it's addicting.

^^^Damn right it's addicting. I'll be smoking my tires until the day I can't drive lol.

Especially with a truck like yours, all those people who trailer their cars, only to run 15s! Addicting indeed.

And yeah, we are driving to Hershey PA this weekend, ~10 hour trip from here. I have some new Potenza RE 760s at work, just waiting to put them on. Probably do it either Thursday or Fri.

Sounds like a nice trip. I like that area.

I only raced the truck (this was many years ago) because the car that I towed to the track (with that truck) broke. Since it was still early I decided to tech the truck and see if I could go rounds. So I unhooked it from the trailer and went. I knew it ran okay for a big truck, but when it cracked the 14's I couldn't believe it

Honestly I've never ran the truck since. But since the 454 let go and I decided to upgrade to a 502 (primarily because I wanted more towing power) I can't help but wonder what it runs now....sooooo,,,,it's going back to the track Not before I run the blazer first though. I think my problem is that racing isn't just addicting, but I just can't leave anything alone either.
