Raced a Ninja 636
I was out running errands and two bikes pulled up behind me at a light. I take the turn leisurely and I see one pulls up next to me.
At this point I'm doing maybe 20mph. I roll into it a little more to minimize spinning and punch it. It was pretty close. He pulled a couple bikes on me, but wasn't really going anywhere. I was right behind him till 80-90 and we had to stop due to a turn.
Not sure if he wasn't trying very hard or if that's all those bikes have? What are those, 11.5 in the 1/4 with an average rider?
I knew it was a 636 cuz he pulled into a KFC down the road.

Talking track times here. So they might have been setup for it. But I have seen 11.0 to 10.5 from 636's..

Yeah I dunno your mods but seems to me maybe he wasn't really going all out....I only say so cause I have an 05 Ninja 636 and I had a friend of mine drive my SS and we raced against each other two times from about a 30mph roll and both times I blew away my car. Car has ported throttle body, amsoil air filter, ls6 intake, long tube headers, no cats, full 3 inch exhaust with borla muffler, tune and suspension mods.
When I raced my car tho, I didn't shift until almost redline every time, so maybe he wasn't shifting properly?

A friend of mine (pajeff02 to confirm) races his and was getting low 12s and that was short shifting it through the first gear and just rolling out off the line. I have seen them run mid 10s with a FANTASTIC rider. That is about as good as they get stock, 10.5-10-6ish.

Well not sure what happened I guess, but that was how it turned out. I have full exhaust and a custom grind 230/230 cam, SS4000 converter, 3.42 gear. No ETs..

Well great job on keeping up with him regardless, it really is crazy what a difference a cam makes in these LS1 motors.
I'm waiting to do heads and cam on my SS and then race it against my bike again

Yea it's pretty ridiculous how mod friendly these are.
My custom grind is geared towards the lower RPMS and making a lot of TQ. Sometimes I wish I went with a little more duration and lift to make another 15hp or so.

Since it was a roll race launching should not be a issue for the car or the bike. The real thing to look at is trap speed can your car trap 125-130mph, probably not. The bike should have pulled harder, either he wasnt trying or doesnt know what hes doing.

From memory it's: 230/230 .613/.598 111+2, ported TB, LS6 intake, shift kit, SS4000, 3.42 gears, SFCs, LCAs w/relocation brackets, and just installed an adjustable TQ arm last night. 3440lbs if I remember right.
I concur.
Out of speculation, I might trap 115mph, but thats just a guess.

Another thing to consider with bikes especially 600s is they need to be in their powerband when running from a roll. My guess would be the guy had it in the wrong gear and under estimated your car, from a roll in the right gear he should have pulled you pretty good.

Also very true, these bikes dont make shit for trq so gearing and being in the right gear is key.
I would say 115-119mph would be a good guess of your trap speed.
I remember a week or so after I got my first cbr 600. I raced a Lexus ISF nice car no doubt but shouldnt be too much of a match since it only has 415 crank hp 5.0 v8 and weighs 3800lbs. He was 1 car behind me at 90-100mph. I started in 2rd from a 30mph roll if i remember correctly, i was still a little scared of 1st gear cause i couldnt keep the front end down.
Good race though a few more mods maybe a 150 shot and you will be beating up on 600s.Last edited by Zinergy; 07-05-2011 at 09:52 AM.

I been thinking of doing a 100 shot. I figured that'd be safe. Run a colder plug, wet shot.
Just thinking...

To get 115-119 mph, you'd probably need 400+ to the tire to get it.
I raced my 600 F3 against my 11.70-ish Camaro years ago and the bike won, but only by about 2 bike lengths. It got that 2 bike margin within the first few seconds, and never pulled any further ahead the rest of the time.

Kill is a kill. Surpised him i'm sure. I've surprised a couple. Underestimation is your friend. Get ahead, let out early. They learn quick.
