How to replace your turn signal and hazard flashers
Since I seen alot of threads lately related with these flashers and some members arehaving issues locating them I decided to dothis thread. I know this applies to the 98-02 models. I'm not sure about previous years.
If you have issues with your front turn signals make sure that check the bulbs and sockets for corrosion/moisture 1st. Most of the time that's the issue.
If the bulbs and sockets are fine or you need to replace the flasher then continue reading.
Remove the panel that is underneath the steering wheel. It has 3 bolts holding it. Carefully start removing the panel.
Next disconnect the plug for the rear hatch switch.
Remove the whole panel out of the way.
If you look closely behind where the panel was you will notice a metal retaining clip and a harness on each side of the opening. The clip on the right side(close to the radio) holds the TURN SIGNAL'S FLASHER.
Just reach behind the clip and you can feel the flasher. Slide the flasher up and you can take it out.
Pull the flasher out of the harness and install the new one. Reinstall the flasher back in the retaining clip.
The retaining clip on the left side of the opening(towards the driver's side door) holds the HAZARD LIGHT'S FLASHER.
If you need to remove the hazard flasher you will need to remove the lower bottom cover above the brake pedal. There is 2 plastic push pins holding it. Just pull those out and the cover comes off.
There is a bundle of wires that pass thru this part of the metal frame of the dash. Slide this bundle of wires out to create room to reach the flasher.
Slide your hand behind and slide the flasher up and out of the retaining clip. This could be hard for someone with big hands. Lucky me I guess...
Guide the flasher out from the bottom and then you can remove it and replace.
Slide it back the same way it came out and put it back in the retaining clip.
Reinstall the bottom cover by pushing the plastic pins back. Re attach the electrical plug to the rear hatch switch. Re install the cover underneath the steering wheel.
I hope this helps you guys out in locating and replacing your flashers. Thanks for watching.Last edited by JayTA98; 05-25-2011 at 08:28 PM.
