You simply add an extra spring to the latch mechanism - very easy to do.

I have the same problem. '99 30th Ann. TAm. Would love to see link for the exact install How-to, and/or your photos, Gents. :-) p.s. nice lunchtime loop drive to local amusement park to get all the fluids and battery "exercised." LOVE this 6-speed v-8 machine! Truly. Makes me grin, and I'm jaded auto industry guy with fast motorcycles too. :-)))

I found it! The pictures help. It does look insanely simple. Piggy-back the spring. Interesting. Will try stopping at Lowe's tonight then.

So I started the final changes to my interior. Pulled the door panels off and took apart so I can access the material portion to change it out. Replacing it with carbon fiber. I like the look and it's going to look good with the color changes to the plastic parts.

I'll post pics once photobucket quits acting up.

I'm also fixing the arm rests as well. They have a high density foam on the inside that over the years has separated from the glue. So regluing them as well.

In addition to replacing the carpet I have also done the headliner. Got rid of the ugly wore gray and changed it to black.

I have a 98 TA, and I've never had any issues with the hatch NOT popping up. I keep it and the front hood latch well lubricated. I remember back in the day with all the heavy metal hoods that use to be the norm on cars, where after you pull the hood release, you had to give the hood a "Fonzie from happy days" hit on top of the hood to get it to pop open. If you keep them both well greased, you should never have an issue.

I actually have kept all the latches, hinges lubricated, and it has problems. Not sure what the problem is.

I prefer the motorized hatch release that my '89 had.

I'd like to see how the door trim "skinning" works out. I have been considering buying a pair of "decent" conditioned door trim boards and covering them in a similar colored foam/vinyl.
