Not a "KILL" yet but a "kid" my dad works with has a 2000 chevy single cab with the 5.3(327ci), a "chip",cat backs and a fresh set of 3.73s!! He has claimed for a while now that he eats up camaros all the time, which I do not beleave, but should I be worried?? Btw I have a 2002 Z with a ls6 intake other wise stock!!

I've seen a few pretty good running 5.3's in the shortbed 2wd trucks that get with it.
Hard to say how fast he is, that's anyones guess.
I say just run em and find out.

I agree with FBJ here. I do have a question what rear tire size are both running? Does either have a DR on it?

He has a motor that makes less, a heavier vehicle, and in all probability an open diff. Why haven't you raced yet?

I seriously doubt you have 3.42 gears in an auto. Regardless, you should blister him. Big weight difference.

I actually have a short bed 2 door 5.3 it moves pretty good till about 60,I also have a programmer on it. I believe the stock time was 15.9 for extended cabs. If the rest of his motor is stock you will beat him by 2 seconds maybe more.

Here is some reading for you. Pretty respectable little engines, in stock trim with just headers it made over 350 hp on the dyno. Small cam and some heads it hit over 440 hp. Read for yourself.

Here is a denali with a 5.3 that runs pretty decent. Funny watching it hang with a lightening.

Arctic White, red/gray- 1997 Corvette, 92 Typhoon
You will win, even with 350hp from bolt ons its still a 4500-5000lbs truck. It is a most likely a high 14 second truck

I'm not sure even a long bed 2wd 5.3 would weigh that much.
My 79 1 ton with made of real steel, and a 454/400 turbo, 14 bolt rear, and loaded to the gills with options like A/C, Cruise etc...and those heavy bastard 16.5 inch steel wheels, dual gas tanks, yada yada,,,,and it only weighed 5,250 without me in it.
I don't see a lighter 5.3 engine in a 1/2 ton truck and an 8.5 inch 10 bolt rear, probably aluminum wheels, a long bed 2wd, even coming close to what my old tank of a truck weighs. If it's a short bed it would be even lighter yet.
Our camaro's aren't exactly feather weights either for what used to be considered among the pony car crowd.

You're welcome. Pretty stout little motor judging by what little they did.
Considering it's really about identical to an LS1, the only difference in cubes is the smaller bore size. Still has the same rotating assembly and the same 200cc cathedral heads, just comes with a smaller combustion chamber.
I'm surprised it made over 350 HP still using the old truck intake manifold, but the torque peak really got me for such a little motor,,,,,380 ft lbs.
