You dropped it to 3rd at 40 and spun to 70mph?

Are you an M6? With 4.10s and bald bald 245s, and H/C/I, dumping the clutch?

man not trying to preach to you but in a car with power of an ls1 never run on damp roads, you can break loose at 70 with dampness pretty much stock.

eh, whenever I do a 40 roll I keep it in 1st with my 273s. You just have to be sure to throw it into D right after you floor it so you don't smash the shit out of the rev limiter.

Keep it in drive and watch the damp roads. You win some you lose some, that's racing

yes there is a point. It's beneficial for roll racing. When you do a 35 roll for example, when you floor it the computer down shifts to second. Two problems here.
    1. you have to wait for the downshift
    2. you start in the wrong gear

Much faster to put it in 1st, floor it, then throw it into drive. This way you don't wait for a downshift and you start in the right gear. same thing goes for a 60-70 roll.

I could see doing this if you had a shift kit but my stock auto tranny in my other TA would shift very slow and unaccurate if done manually.

Even shifting a A4 to 3rd the car would still shift to second at that speed since my car shifted.into 3rd at 70 or so with the 3.73's at old 6k redline. I never bother shift even from a roll it only takes my car less than a second to.downshift. also heard it's bad unless you have a built tranny. Also I second not running on damp roads my car will break loose at 40 on dry payment with good tires so I would hate too try it when its damp.

wait for a downshift?i dont know what that is.a 4l60e in stock form wont last long downshifting to 1rst at 40.i run a vacuum modulator in my 4l60e so i dont have to "wait for a downshift".it downshifts instantly when i punch it.imo an automatic should be able to downshift and upshift at any speed.thats what makes it an automatic.
