you cant really see it with the intake on......but the intake does not fully seat against the head where the bolts are....so crap accumulates right in the bolt wells as you can see in the pics

FYI OP, you could have gotten the LS6 coolant bypass kit for cheaper $56. I can't post because its not a sponsor but anyone else can PM me is interested. The kit includes 2 block off plugs for the rear.

Great job Op on the thread. I will use it as a guide when I do mine. Did you use a Dremel to make the cuts? Nice job in pointing out the knock sensors.

so guess im out of the loop but why did you need to cut into the block to get the valley cover to fit?

so this must be only for the older ls1 cars that didnt have the ls6 block or intake than. i just dropped in a crate ls6 into my 01 ws6 and it looked like the valley pan wouldnt clear the oil pressure sensor so i put the stock ls1 one on.....

Good job. Fwiw I have the LS6 valley, intake was getting alot of oil in it. Still got just as much oil in it with the LS6 valley. Was a useless mod for me. I run a catch can off the Valley now and the intake stays bone dry.

i did this mod purely to replace the crappy PCV hoses....since those were causing a vacum leak i am sure i was not getting any oil into the intake

if the LS1 cover fits....the LS6 cover should fit......same bolt spacing ........and no need to grind a LS6 block for clearance

I would put a pcv or a catch can and PCV on there, full vacuum even with the LS6 valley cover will draw more fumes and oil than you want into the intake. What did you use to block off the ports on the valve covers?

on the rear drv cover i used the GM block off........rear pass port was capped off....front pass port still goes to the TB......i thought the whole idea of the new style cover was to get rid of the PCV cannister in the loop?

no. it is to get rid of all the piping around the engine. the pcv valve is still needed

that does not explain the differences between the old style cover....which used a PCV valve in the loop.......and the new style.........which does not

I've noticed this as well. My old LS6 valley came with a pcv valve in the loop, as would an older Z06. LS2 GTOs however I noticed have no pcv in the loop. I'm clueless as to why...

The re-worked PCV system for trucks etc. used a 2.5mm orifice in the PCV rather than the check ball and spring of the old system. Many have had good results using this PCV in place of the one normally in use. On the 2004+ LS1s the 2.5mm orifice is built into the the outlet hose fitting on the cover. If your cover has this feature you're fine, if not, use the newer model orifice PCV and you'll be good to go.

Here's a link showing a good picture of the different valves:

i copied n pasted .........got it to work.....if you look at the pics of the underside of the new style cover.......it has holes in the plastic......i assume to take the place of the hole in a PVC canister.....that fixed hole PCV is mentioned as a replacement in other articles to reduce oil in the intake
