Next Project - 1970 Oldsmobile W-31

Best way to learn is to do it. A good shop manual and the internet will get you through most projects. I stalled out on the Cutlass after we purchased the Regal a few months ago. Now that the Regal is on the road and everything is sorted out on it, I hope to return to the Cutlass restoration soon.

Time just seems to fly. I can't say that I haver accomplished a whole lot in the last several months. The Turbo Regal kept me busy last year, my step-son got married and it seemed like we were always on the run. At Fall Carlisle, I picked up a front seat cover, headliner and rear package tray from Legendary Interiors. Over Christmas, I managed to dig the body out and re-arrange the lower garage so I now have a place to work on it. I am storing the Regal and Trans Am there right now and once the weather improves I'll be able to pull them out to work on the body.

The lower garage is now empty as we finally have concrete in the new building. I purchased better wheels for the dolly and installed them several weeks ago onto the brackets. Last night, I swapped the wheels out on the dolly and was able to roll the body in and out of the garage very easily when I tried them out for the first time this evening. I found that it helps to jack up the front end and turn the wheels manually in the direction I want to travel. There is just too much weight and I am concerned that if I force them to rotate while loaded the forks could end up bending. I have to install a dryer and regulator on my air line and then will be ready to go to work on the body.

real deal W-31 is a very cool car to build...I have always been a huge fan of the older oldsmobile cars but thats because my dad and my grandfather both had one back in the day. One had a 442 the other had a cutlass that looked just like a 442.

Didnt the W-31's have a certain engine bay color or something like that? Might have been the wheel wells but I remember hearing something like that a while back...

W-30 cars had red inner fenders and the W-31 cars come equipped with black ones.

Feeling guilty about not getting back at this project. A few days ago, I pulled the plugs, squirted a little oil down the cylinders and rolled the engine over by hand. This year they are featuring Oldsmobiles at GM Carlisle. I am thinking that our car is not going to make it.
