no the record is 12.5, and a handful of 12.6's. that's the great running ones.

Well, if the Mustang is still $10k cheaper than the Camaro, GM has their work cut out for them.

Can anyone explain how the camaro was 1st, mustang 2nd, challenger 3rd last year. But now the mustang is 1st, somehow the challenger is now better than the camaro 2nd, and camaro 3rd.

I don't see that happening unless the car is on drag radials which would allow a more aggressive launch. If that's the case, the same holds true for the new GT, a pair of drag radials might take it into the low 12s.

Camaro5.com has a list up. Quickest so far reported is a 12.58 @ ~112 mph. Second is 12.61. Both swear they are stock and on stock tires. No reason to believe otherwise.

True dat. I believe that actual difference is $9,999.99. Jeez people - get it right!

Or, instead of bitching about it, tell him what the real difference is.

    Ok.

    Base GT coupe is $29,645-$37,845
    Base SS coupe is $33,430

It still won't correct anything. And that's reported by Motor Trend, not that I believe anything they say lately.

How does the base have a 29,645-37,845msrp? With 8,000 in options it wouldnt be base anymore.

    2010 camaro ss msrp 33,430.
    2011 stang gt msrp 29,645.

You never know what dealers will have them marked at.

will a new mustang end up running a 12.5 or maybe better? sure it's possible. but it isn't running over the camaro like everyone thinks.

Motortrend has it at 12.7 vs a 13.1 for the SS (don't know if that qualifies as "running over it" or not - and it IS a magazine, so who knows.....). However, the power-to-weight numbers seem to suggest they will be within a tenth or two of each other.

The Base Camaro 1SS is $30,945 - much closer to the base Mustang GT number that was posted.

The Base Camaro 2SS is $33,945, which should be very close to the "GT Premium" version of the Mustang.

In other words, they are similarly price across the model lineup.

Well...are u comparing 2 or 3 GTs that just got released running 12.7 to the fastest select few SSs that have been out in peoples hands running 12.6 ...and make a statement like that? So assuming that .5 can be removed from mag number...that is a damn good run and whipping ....only time will tell with the GT.

if the gt does end up giving the camaro whipping then two good things will come from this.

1: for the first time ever the gt has a real engine.

2: in a year or two gm is going to give us a damn fast ss!

The Mustang was faster then the Camaro back in the mid 80"s, most of you on this forum didn't yet get off your tricycles then to realize it, or probably were still a gleam in your Dad's eye. I had a 84 Z/28 that got smoked repeatedly by the 85GT. It truly sucked.
The GM bowtie lovers on this site (99.999999999% of us) are about to come to the realization that what goes around...comes around and the next thing around you will be a damn V6 Mustang which will really be a kick in the dick.
I can see the posts now....

Next..2015 will be a new platform for Camaro based on the current Cadillac CTS, and will be a bit smaller and probably lighter.
The 2012 Z/28 will have 556HP, but the supercharged Mustang will be right there with it, if not higher.
Let the wars rage on and may he with the deepest pocket be first across the finish line.
