Pinion Angle

I just want to make sure I did this correctly. With the car on its wheels and the suspension settled (bounced the car a few times and let it sit for a bit) I used a digital level on the driveshaft and the bottom plate on my torque arm at the differential. The driveshaft points down 2.4 degrees, so -2.4. The rear points up 0.9 degrees after adjustment, so +0.9. Adding the two numbers yields negative 1.5 degrees. Did I do that right?

From everything that I have read, Yes you did.....but I would like a confirmation from someone else too

That's what the directions said with my BMR adj TA.

If your shaft is running 2.5 at the pinion, then you want the pinion at/between +.5 to +1.

Then when you are under load it will probably take out another 1. (tq arm equipped) and be close to 0 which is the non hp robbing angle you want.

That is how I understand it also Jeff. As mentioned above, under load, theoretically you want the angle to be 0 degrees. Most common is set at about -2 from what I've read.

Thanks Jon! This thread had not received many responses and I wanted some assurance that I did it right. I subscribe to Car Craft, but that article you linked was published too long ago for me to remember it.

You did it right.

2 degrees is the safe standard.
When tq arms are added or link style or ladder style depending on bushing deflection you could take some more out.

Some 4 links and similar suspensions can dial in less maybe 1. or .05 with solid links
I don't have much experience with the tq arm gm's to say you could take some more angle away.

But that is right just like you have it.
I deal with this everyday if it makes you feel better.
