01' Firebird Pewter- 98' Trans Am Black
My Firebird
I`m in Highschool
My first car
Its a 1995 Firebird 3.8L
The only thing i have done to it "performance wise" was the magna flo exhaust, and thats it
And the tires from a vette i got my hands on
Other then that there hasnt been nothing performance wise,
cept i got a ramair hood and a trans am back hatch
What are some good, cheap things i can do to my car performance wise to upgrade it in any ways??
Im keeping this car for a long time
and if i were to do mods that would decrese the value that is okay
its far from stock, If youve seen it youd know :P
Thanks

A set of subframe connectors are a good idea. Not a lot of money and a simple install if you go with bolt in pieces.

I thought you had nitrous?

Well you could always get the tranny reprogrammed.. You can eek a little better performance that way if you're an auto. Headers/cam/tune, would'nt be bad idea either. Depends on your goals really.. On the not so cheap side, could go blower too but there wll need to be a bunch of custom work. You could also go turbo too..

Put it back in where the spare tire goes, no one will see it
It quickly gets to the point where you will spend more money to make it kinda fast then if you were to sell it and buy a v-8.

OP - You are leaps and bounds ahead of where I was at your age. I drove a 1981 Plymouth Reliant K-car 4 door, 2.2 liter 4 banger with a whopping 85 horsepower. Its only redeeming quality was that it came with a 4 speed manual transmission. I remember the pics - you have one sweet looking Firebird!

2001 3.8 Black - sold- 2000 SS Black M6
Not just a whole lot out there for the 3800...although I know Smittro will beg to differ. i know Comp Cams had a street cam out for it.
Someone else on here has a set of coated pacesetters for the 3.8 for sale.
The only problem with exhaust is the dreaded rasp.
I dont have any personal experience with head work, but ive heard the 3.8 responds well to it. airflow is its restricting factor. Like I said before, Smittro is our V6 guru...Ive just owned a few

Well just a little the 3800/3.8 has been around for a very long time. Longer than I've been around (35 yrs) there's a decent amount of after market for them. After market parts tend to get stronger with demand and there's a good demand out there from the Buick GN crowd and GTPer's too. One may have to dig alittle into the spec sheets of verious types of 3800 v6 (after the deck hieght change) for cross ref parts. Verious combos do different things just with stock parts alone. There are a wide assortment of stock type cam profiles, as well as after market stuff (thank you Buick guys!).

A quick mod that may net some minor gains would be if you're still running that goofy 90* rubber/plastic breather/intake tube set up. Get yourself the 3800II set up with a lid like my 01 has. Ls1 lid wont work as it's lid has a centered outlet to the TB. The 3800II's lid is slightly to the drivers side but breaths the way the ls1 do..

I'll post some before and afters as soon as I can actually get to a full roll on it.. I'll get up some picures of the composites too. Un-effin' believable..They look like they came off a 30 year old car rather than a 9 yr old 80k vehicle..

I don't believe that air box works in the 97 and below 3.8s, the throttle area changed a ton
