Talk about weight advantage. I'm 165 myself.

My old Camaro Z28 weighed in at 3572lbs. with full interior.

My 240SX weighs in at 2408lbs. with some weight reduction.

Best times with full bolt ons in the Camaro were high 12s.

Best times with full bolt ons in the 240 were high 11s.

I'm pretty sure both cars put out similar hp/tq numbers.

    Weight makes a big difference.

Well I think we can all agree weight makes a difference. Every 100 lbs. is worth roughly 1/10th in the quarter mile.

Where I think people have been mislead or ill informed is the actual weight of a car. Someone said the GT500 is a fat pig because it's 3800 lbs. or more. Then someone said,,,then I guess the new 5th gen is a fat pig as well. That's all fine and dandy. Then you have people taking that even further saying "anything" 3500 lbs. or more is a fat pig.

Well that would put 90% of the 4th gen owners in that boat calling their own cars fat pigs

I'm okay with that, I don't care how much my cars weigh, but it seems there are people that think all 4th gens weigh ~3300 lbs. because they have seen one or two that weigh that much, or have had serious weight reduction, parts changed etc....not realizing that's only a handfull out of thousands.

Maybe this should be looked at as average weight of a car with all it's original equipment. Afterall we are trying to compare to other cars right off the showroom that haven't had a wrench turned yet.
With that said I think you'll find that the majority of stock 4th gens will come in on an average of 3500 lbs. or more.

I think we also need to keep in mind,,,,weight can easily be removed from any car, a 5th gen, a GT500 etc...Just because it start out heavy doesn't make it any less of a car.

Do believe it was I that said the GT500 was a fat pig, which by weight association (new term....just made it up) puts the 2010 Camaro in the same boat (so to speak).

3500 is heavy too, for my preferences, and I think that is probably about average for a 4th Gen F-body too.

Weight can certainly be removed from a car (easy or not - it can be done). However, it is highly likely that I'm still going to be lighter after stripping a 4th Gen than I would after stripping a 5th gen. No, I'm not going to try it just to prove a point on the internet.

Start loosing some options and you can get it down. Roll up windows, manual cloth seats, manual mirrors, etc then remove all the associated wiring/relays etc. Boyah 3400 range. When I get around to putting mine back together I'm going to see how close to 3000 I can get and still keep it liveable with AC etc. I imagine I can shed another 75 lbs just getting some light wheels/tires and changing the heavy ass PHR and torque arm for lighter units. Hoping I can get it to 3300 or less while maintaining full streetability (AC, radio, lights, wipers etc).

Looks like it could be leaking where the oil filter mount attaches to the block.

Been there done that ended up with this

I had a big cam and 4.11's that did not like being put into 2nd at 80ish mph though (long story but was supposed to be a diagnosis of why trans was shifting funny).

Ouch,,,yep that's one thing a rev limiter will not save. Just can't stop the motor from over reving when downshifting and gear multipication forces it up there.
