Yeah, it's the stuff legends are made. Look "Legend" up in the dictionary because a legend is a fictonal character.
They is a lot closer that you'un want to think. I'm still waitng to see an LS1 bonestock make 330 rwhp SAE. It may make 330 uncorrected is a cool shop. Factory freak, bwahahahahahahaha. Not in today's manufacturing. The legend continues.

I have never seen nor heard of a stock ls1 with 330 rwhp, they are all around 300 rwhp.
But that being said, the 01 Cobra only puts down around 270 rwhp. And because of the i.r.s. in the cobras, the fbods and 01 cobras are around the same weight. And the cobras had a 3.27 rear end gear, and the m6 fbods had a 3.42s Plus a 6 speed vs a 5 speed. Long story short, advantage LS1 fbods.
The only prayer the cobra had against an m6 fbod was 0-60, they were a hair faster I believe. like 5.2 to 5.1 or something like that. But the qaurter mile was like m6 fbod- 13.4 to cobras - 13.8

The 6 speed vs 5 speed is not an advantage in the 1/4 mile (or anything waaayyyy into triple digits). That's because both trannies are overdriven in gears 1 to 3 and have the same 1:1 4th gear. The main difference is that the T56 has two OD gears vs the 5-speeds 1 OD gear.
And once the modding starts (even "bolt-ons"), be careful. Though quick bolt-on LS1's are far more common than quick N/A bolt-on Cobras, that doesn't mean that you won't run across a good running bolt-on example. There are several examples of N/A 98+ Cobras/Mach 1's that have gone well into the 11's with bolt-ons.
Finally....the main F-body advantage comes from the LS1 itself. It is, quite simply, a superior performance powerplant to the N/A 4V 4.6.

01 cobras dont need "alot of mods" to beat an ls1, all it needs is 4.10 gears and some good tires

The 2011 Mustang will come out with a 5.0 engine with a reported 400HP 400lbft torque. It should be interesting to see how it runs.
Ford is doing away with the 4.0, 4.6 and 5.4. They are being replaced by the 3.5 V6 (also available as an ecoboost version w/355HP), 5.0 (400HP) and 6.2 (500HP) engines going forward. It looks like Ford is trying to keep up with the rest of the auto makers because 315HP in a GT is a far cry from 426 in an SS or 425 in the SRT-8 Challenger.
I'm still waiting for the Z/28 version to become available. Sooner or later they have to open the vault and let it happen. This may be just what is needed to make that happen.

Having a Mustang and a Firebird (and a Trailblazer SS, Ford F150 & Dodge Ram 2500 truck) YOU CAN'T SAY I DIDN'T DO MY PART TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY
All I will say is it takes some work on the older Mustangs to beat the 98-02 cars. Although, I remember when the 85 GT would toast my 84 Z/28. MY 99 WS6 will out perform most Mustangs of today.
Its been a war since I was a little kid. I'm sure its not going to end anytime soon.
I guess what separates me from the die hard GM lovers is the fact that I love performance cars as long as they are made in America. Some would question my preference of either, and I couldn't tell you honestly which car I like better.
P.S. That doesn't count rice, as the only thing that comes to mind when I see them is a rolling fart can.
